Crimestopper RS7-G5 Cool Start 2-Way Remote Start System

Installed in a 2008 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, using a fortin key-overide-all for the bypass, the install was pretty straight forward, only problem I had was finding the lock / unlock and parking light wires in the drivers kick panel; found them eventually and the rest was easy, I also installed the dome light supervision "you need a separate relay for this that's not included". I have left the remote set to use the tach -less (default) start and had no issues so far, if I start getting any hard / false starts I will use the tach wire, I ran this wire into the engine bay just in case. The range is quite impressive but not quite as advertised; I can start the truck from the bottom of the pasture about 1/4m, overall very pleased. Update: 9-27-17 Remote start and keyfobs still working great, have not had any issues with the remotes as other people have reported, but I use a nice leather case for the remote which keeps it well protected, purchased from the big auction website cost $3.00, I also added the Rockford- Fosgate add-on that lets you remote start with your cell phone, simple plug and play, another great feature of the Rockford-Fosgate is it the app has a Google search feature that can locate your car, my insurance dropped by 10% adding this which paid for the unit, also the 1st year is free with very reasonable plans for additional years, the insurance premium dropping with more than cover the cost of the additional years. Up-Date Dec 4th 2018. Well, the LCD remote started acting weird, the lock/unlock buttons worked but the starter button stopped working, I took the remote apart and found that the solder joins had broken on the button from the hundreds of presses, I whipped out the soldering iron and resoldered the joins which fixed the problem, I also set some epoxy around the button to further strengthen it, should last another couple of years. This Crimestopper RS7-G5 was a great addition to my 2002 F250 Superduty Powerstroke. My main reason for installing this was to let my truck warm up even on not-so-cold days. The transmission just runs better when the old gal has a minute or two to get her feet under her before I hit the throttle on the diesel engine. The diesel start delay option is built in and easy to set. I've been using it for about a week now and have been very pleased with it's operation. INSTALLATION: I read everything I could find about it before purchasing and there were no surprises for me during the installation. Even though it's a relatively straight forward installation I have to agree with other reviewers in that you shouldn't try to self-install this (or any) system without at least some 12VDC auto experience. Every car has its own nuances so research, research, research and get a good wiring diagram for your vehicle. Don't be surpised if you need an additional module or something to make everything work correctly. You can G**gle enough to figure things out for your specific vehicle but you'll need to appreciate a challenge or two here and there such as locating wires in bundles as big as your wrist. OPERATION: I have been impressed and pleased with the operation of this unit. The range is really very good and I'm starting the vehicle daily from inside an office behind about three walls of brick, sheetrock and glass. If you're a elelctronics geek like me you can integrate a NodeMCU chip and tell Alex to, "Start my truck" when you roll out of bed in the morning and enjoy that toasty cab as you head to work. :) SERVICE: I contacted the manufacturer through thier website to ask a couple of questions during the install and they were pretty quick to respond with tips and such. Very helpful folks. My experience with unit has been great so far. I'll update this review if there's anything worthy to report.

It worked great for about 40 days , but now the remote stopped working!

So let me start by saying that this is a basic Remote start system but not a basic car alarm install. If you are beginner or do not have 12v experience, dont waste your money and attempt this install. I have years of 12v experience but I've never installed a remote start and I spent about 4 hours installing this on a 2004 Chevy Tahoe. For someone that installs these everyday, they can probably be done in two hours. It has some pretty cool features that can be programmed such as setting the amount of time you want your vehicle to warm up or cool down for and allowing your vehicle to start at specific times to keep the block heated up for those nights when the weather is below zero. It also has a horn confirmation feature so you can hear the horn and know your vehicle is started, or you csn look at the remote and see that the vehicle is started too. If I had to go back and purchase it again, I would purchase the more deluxe crimestopper remote start that has an alarm built in too because the RS7-G5 doesn't alert you on the remote or with a horn or siren that your vehicle is being broken into. Installed by a professional mechanic on a JDM Impreza Type RA Limited V, so no problems were expected and none have surfaced so far. Does its job 100% at approx. 1000 feet though the walls of a multistory apartment, not a single fail. USB charge is awesome and lasts for 10 days at least. Just a very minor gripe - turbo-timer mode could have been simpler, even for a budget equipment like this one - I wish it could be just programmed once and left like that, without the need to push the start key every time you exit the car.

Long range. The ability to look at the remote and see exactly what is going on with the car is a must have feature for remote start. No wondering if it started or not. If you are standing at the window watching, your prolly close enough that you may have just went out and started it? This provides WAY longer range than you think. Great unit. Worked flawless. Works seamlessly with evo-all bypass and canbus module, which is also a genius unit.

This is a great starter I've installed a few different brands and they are all the same except the key fobs this one has the best one. WAY more solid than the others so basically your buying the key fob this one is nice and solid!! Not cheap plastic ones that look like there from the dollar store. and the range is awesome I started it 3 blocks away and it was in the garage!!!!!!

One of the better remote car starts for the money, I've purchased 3 of them and installed them in 3 different makes/models. However, the 2-way remotes apparently have an issue as 2 of the 3 have stopped working entirely. The remote still powers on, but does not appear to transmit anything. The one-way remotes work fine. Unfortunately, CrimeStopper offers no warranty or support whatsoever for their product and insist that I must return the entire device to replace the remote. I have no interest in uninstalling the whole thing just to get a remote (which cannot be purchased separately) so my "2-way" car starter is effectively now only a 1-way.
