I've been looking for mandarin reading material and as a working mom, I also hardly have enough time to read to my toddler. This is great bc my husband who doesn't speak mandarin can still use the pen to read to our toddler. Took him a while to learn to use the pen himself but he's getting the hang of it and is enjoying the book very much. The book is quite sturdy as well. I hope this book will last for many years.

5 Feb 2021 UpdateOur pen started to act oddly. Sometimes it turns off seemingly on its own; we discovered it happens when the pen is tapped a certain way/spot. Then I needed to clean out battery acid and when replacing the battery cover that has a screw to keep it safely locked, I easily broke the little piece of plastic that the screw holds down. Cover still stays in fine because of the normal battery cover latch, just have to watch it with younger children since it’s no longer locked by the screw.Still consider this a 5 star product because overall it still works and previously noted positives are still there. I’m not surprise that the pen is a little delicate.———Physical quality of every item is great. Didn’t know what to expect, but the book is very sturdy, audio is clear, pen is also sturdy with solid buttons. Love the volume range (most children’s products are too loud). A book/product that teaches both Mandarin and English vocabulary AND has sounds (e.g. animals) and bits of music (instruments) is perfect for engaging my three year old who turns away when presented with too many unfamiliar things at once. He only knows the most basic intro words and phrases, so Grandpa reading him a book is not useful.My only wish is that there were a pocket to hold the alphabet poster and CD. They are both suffering three year old treatment and that makes me sad, it’s too nice a product to ruin that way. All the more reason to put that poster up on the wall I guess.

I bought this for my six year old that is learning several languages. The pen tells you the word in English and Mandarin. We love this!!! Totally worth the price !!

The microphone/pen draw kids’ attention right away. It was a fun way for kids to learn Mandarin and English at the same time.I just wish the battery compartment could be open more easily. I wish we could just use the USB to charge instead of putting in batteries.

My 2-year daughter loves it. So do my wife and I. The pronunciation is a little mixed (you will hear different accents for both English and Mandarin) but it gets the job done. The book is very nicely produced and the quality of the pen is very good.

We like the concept and we have about 50 books or so in traditional Chinese. So, we purchased this in October to support our bilingual journey with our 3 year old. Within a week of having it, the pen would shut off during use. I reached out to Amazon via chat, but was told I needed to wait for the customer support via email. It is now January and I have not heard back. The pen went from shutting off on its own during use in October to now not turning on at all (with brand new batteries). It makes one little sound and won't turn on at all. The fact that it stopped working within a week of having it and Amazon telling me that I had to wait for customer support via email was a great disappointment. Even more disappointing when I never heard back and it's been since October when I contacted them and it is now January 1st.

This was a huge hit with my 4 year old niece who is trying to learn Chinese. She could work the book all on her own and the pronunciation is correct. The one downfall is that this system is quite expensive. Would love it if the wand could work with other expansion books. No matter, it was worth it to pass on the Chinese language to her.

My girl just starts learning how to speak, she is one year and 10 months now. This book with the sound pen guides her a proper pronunciation in Mandarin. Me and my husband communicate in Mandarin at home and she listens two languages both English and Spanish at school. Before using this book, she can barely speak a few words in Mandarin. With this book, she actually learned and speaks with good pronunciation a lot faster than we were expected.
