The Book of Doors Divination Deck: An Alchemical Oracle from Ancient Egypt

One of the most accurate, insightful & helpful oracle decks I’ve used.

Like many integral occult tools, this one might seem confusing and/or impuissant to the uninitiated. This tool, however, is an understated powerhouse and is not for everyone. It reflects holistic integrations across many dimensions of both occult and mainstream studies - alchemy, math, geometry, psychology, cosmology, astrology and even more for the adept perceiver. The structured approach, while unassuming or even tedious on the surface, is deliberate and powerful with each step and activity stimulating alignment with specific areas of the subconscious matrix. Those who developed this methodology are clearly adepts in the sacred arts and can be easily forgiven for what some may perceive as an excessively verbose or academic approach. This level of occult fidelity justifies such a treatment. To those new or less experienced with this type of art, it may very well seem complicated at first. One suggestion might be that once you have consumed the background and base knowledge (pgs. 1-32), and then begin to learn through play. This will establish a personal connection with the material that will greatly aid in one’s exploration and journey through the doors. If one is looking for simple fortune telling or yes/no answers, however, one could find the use of this tool akin to bringing a cannon to a piñata party - a bit heavy handed and overkill. While it can work, there are much simpler and more direct methods for such guidance. This tool is perfect for those looking to move deeper into self-mastery and take responsibility while removing obstacles that constrain authenticity and creativity. Only thing missing would be a digital copy of the book available as an accompaniment. For those of us who do approach this as a study and not just as a tool, having it in a portable library would be valuable.

I must say that the cards are beautiful & do speak to me. The book has really good information about the different deities. The spread however, I have a hard time connecting with it. So, I use spreads meant for angel cards since there is no reverse in either type of cards. When I use the other spreads, I have an easier time connecting with the cards and the readings always come out accurate. My advice, go with your instincts on how to read the cards & make a connection. You will not be disappointed.

I stumbled upon this little treasure by chance and absolutely love it! I have always been attracted to Egyptian lore and have collected various oracles and Tarot decks with similar themes. This one takes the cake! Historically based and thoroughly researched, it is not just a simple pack of cards. The artistic skill could be a little tighter. The colors are not vivid, the execution is not as professional as it could be. What it lacks here, philosophically this set is lightyears ahead of all competition. It took about a month of study and review until it gave its secrets. It was mindboggling! I was a strict believer that the tarot did not come from Egypt. Now I am not so sure. This is not a tarot deck but it works like one if desired through random shuffling. I really appreciate the casting of the included 8 sided die. There are some hard to believe theories presented as well; such as life originating on another planet, and rather abstract theories on the afterlife. I wished the book was longer, with sections on magical applications and individual invocations. To a creative magician, this is not difficult. Time will tell where this deck ends up. I was clueless as to its existence before this year. A second edition with some beefed up artistry would be nice but who knows...

This deck is awesome! The 10-card method it teaches, where you select the cards with a chart and a dice, creates very in-depth readings. I have been blown away by the messages I have been getting from them - deep, uplifting yet constructive, and they incorporate the gods and goddesses as well as the spiritual healing methods that the Egyptians used. The book is also fantastic; it's very detailed and mysterious. If you already have a bunch of basic taro and divination decks and want to take it to the next level, I highly recommend this one. I feel like it will take me years to master it, which is a testament to how great it is!

Get ready to have your interest ignited in Egyptian mythology. Beautiful deck and the guidebook is like an introduction class to Egyptian mythology. Also the spread within gives great information for readings. Buy it!

This is really absorbing material. Fascinating on numerous levels. A deeper dive into what some would call "magick". If you're looking for beautiful cards with uplifting messages that are easy to read and understand, this may not be the kit for you. If you are expecting large, glossy drawings of the Middle and Late Kingdom Egyptian gods as WE have come to understand them via the Greeks and Romans, please seek another deck. This is a bit more messy and (I hate to say this lest anyone get the wrong impression) dark. Even in the Rider-Waite Tarot deck, the Fool's journey through darkness is superficial. In this deck, we get the full journey from death to rebirth with all the disgusting decay, uncertainty and intensity. This is more like an agglomeration of Egyptian mystery school thought, ancient Egyptian history of the gods, alchemy, magic squares, ancient Greek mathematics (not too much of that, thank the gods!) and a bit of divination. If you have any interest in ancient Egyptian mystery schools, then this will please you. The ONLY complaint I have is that the authors used Budge's translations of early Egyptian instead of more modern translations. Budge missed a lot of nuance in his original translations of Old Kingdom hieroglyphs which can lead to misunderstandings. I'd personally prefer a more modern translation but that's a minor quibble. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book and looking through the cards. No, I have not attempted to use them for divination purposes since that wasn't my intention. I will at some point but right now, I'm just absorbing and pondering the information (the book contains a bibliography, too, for additional research). Do not be put off or intimidated by this review or other reviews for this set. If you have ANY interest in alchemy, you will understand the book and how the divination works. There are levels to this tool and you don't need to be some utter geek to "get it". If you've had an interest in alchemy, then you'll understand it straight away and learn even more as you dig into the information. This deck isn't for the faint of heart but it's also not JUST for the hard core alchemist, either. I'm neither of those but I really am enjoying this book and deck.

If you love Egypt this deck is for you. Beautiful art and the book that come is well explained the cards. I don’t use for divination(just for active imagination) but I think should be good for it.

This is an awesome oracle and feels very powerful and gives accurate messages, however it will take a long time to truly learn this deck and understand/adapt to how this deck communicates. I've had my deck for about a month now and am somewhat starting to get the 'feel' and general gist of it, but the guide book, although very informative on the egyptian neteru stories has a few keywords for the divinatory meaning 3 keywords to be precise if your lucky. something along the lines of 'truth, wisdom,writing' e.g. I do really love the artwork, it has an authentic and traditional cultural feel to it which is exactly what I was looking for. I had previously had this on my Wishlist for a long time, but this deck is getting increasingly harder to find and more expensive so I made the choice to take the leap and buy it, I don't regret buying it at all, but if you should purchase it, be prepared to study this deck meticulously as it will take quite a bit of reading and analysing to see the 'message' within the text.

Great resource for learning about the gods wuickly. I also used "The Gods Of The Egyptians" and Shaw's Egyptian Mythology to get the archetypes in my mind, using the cards as an organization sytem andncue cards in a way. With all of this the reading take on a deeper meaning and the cards that come up together can flow in and out of one another. Great Buy!
