Hollywood Game Plan: How to Land a Job in Film, TV and Digital Entertainment

Worthless stuff you already know...
The "advice" in this book is the same advice you'll read anywhere. It's as old as dirt, and overall just bad advice in general. In order to become a writer, actor, producer, etc, it's all about WHO YOU KNOW (which is practically stated multiple times throughout this book.) That's advice you have heard a million times. But yes, it's true in Hollywood. If you think you're going to move out to LA and just get your foot in the door, think again. Takes years and years and years of diligent networking. Go make friends. Those friends will know other friends who could possibly get you a job as PA (or some other entry level position), and you can attempt to work your way up from there. This book is utter nonsense. Does Carole really think this is worthy advice that should've truly been made into a purchasable book? If so, I think she's a bit delusional. She must really think every person out there looking to "break in" into the industry is dumb. Her advice throughout the book proves it.Don't purchase this book. You'll waste your money. Just read free blog posts online, you'll get the same exact info.

Literally my new Bible
I read this a while ago for a class at my college, and I honestly remember being this invested in a book since I read Harry Potter when I ten. But seriously, it really helped me out in ways that I did not expect at all. It’s all laid out for you clearly in a way that’s not preachy or condescending. If you want to work in the entertainment industry via writing, production, business, etc. This book will actually tell what you have to do, what it’s like doing it, and how to do it in the best way imaginable. The writer wrote this was a TV executive for CBS and Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment. Basically, taking her own experience, as well as other’s journey to success. Carefully analyzing those who succeeded in flying colors, and those who just didn’t know what to do. Then putting it all into this book. I even got to talk to her about being an intern, moving to LA, & good versus bad cover letters and resumes. So, things like being an intern, being a production assistant, how to make a resume, the importance of cover letters, how to survive LA, and what to do when you get an opportunity. All of it is laid out in the book, not only that, but the chapter on cover letters an resumes SAVED my life. So, if anything that I just wrote interests you, then this book is definitely worth the price!

Just Okay
This book is good if you're a high school or college student who has absolutely no knowledge of the industry. But, it really isn't for anyone over 30 who is considering a career change or who has been trying to break into the industry for a while now. It has common sense advice, like how to dress for an interview and networking tips. I just skipped over these chapters because this is basic stuff that you should already know in any industry. I also felt like the book is a little outdated in some areas. The map of Los Angeles was nice for anyone considering a move to LA though. Overall, it was a quick read and confirmed most of what you probably already know.

Tips, warnings, and advice from someone on the inside.
I was recommended this book by an executive at my current internship who swore by its contents and told me everything I needed to know to get an entry level job would be found inside. I ordered the book immediately and dived right in, learning about everything from the best way to format my resume to how to connect with executives and create long-lasting relationships that would lead to something bigger down the road.Carole Kirschner's book is amazing in that it not only gives you words of wisdom and advice from a woman who has been in the industry for years, but it is also a very enjoyable read. While it may reside closer to the self-help genre than to a memoir, traces of her personality are embedded in the pages making the reader want to read and learn more.I would recommend this book to a friend and am very happy to have come across it at this stage in my life.

This is the Secret Sauce
It's clear, concise, and quick, and has given me countless montras that help my daily networking and career development. The tips about resume construction and cover letter writing are better than your average workshop and are tailored for the entertainment industry. I followed it to the letter and have scored three internships so far. I'll cling to this advice for my career until it stops working.

Excellent resource for anyone interested in the Entertainment Industry!
As a career educator at a University I do my best to learn about as many industries as possible so that I can direct our students as effectively as possible. The Hollywood Game Plan was recommended to me by a peer from another institution, and I will be forever grateful. This book helped me better understand the industry and the potential entry points for our students, and led to the design of new class now being offered once a year. The book will always be recommended reading for the students in the class, and will continue to be a valuable reference in the years ahead.

Avoid this cash in at all costs.
This is such a pulp book of nonsense. Sure, it will help you understand how your "dream" is actually an attempt to get a business loan without a business plan, but the long and short of this book is summed up on page 193. "Most meetings take place suddenly and locally at lunches, dinners and racket courts. If you aren't in LA, how are you going to attend these meetings?"
