Power of the Seed: Your Guide to Oils for Health & Beauty (Process Self-reliance Series)

This book is carefully and thoughtfully presented. If you work with plants, oils and skincare this is a must have for your bookshelf. Susan Parker describes, in chemical and layman's detail, oils that you know and oils you may never have heard of but now you will want to use. I am beyond impressed with the depth of her knowledge and I am so grateful that she wrote this incredible book. I am usually a stickler for an index (referring to an earlier review) but for this book there really is no need as it is all alphabetical. The actual book is the perfect size and the paper and cover are solid!

I haven't found a better or more thorough book focused on carrier oils. I have purchased at least three copies of Susan's book since I have lost many from moving so often. The information is too useful and valuable not to buy replacement copies. I always buy the print version because I don't want to my computer or ipad connected to me like an umbilical cord. And because I like to take notes! You probably won't regret buying both. Follow Susan M Parker online for excellent teachings and interactions. I really really look forward to her new edition of Power of the Seed.

The Power of the Seed is an incredible reference book! It has so much information, and detail about so many different oils I never would have thought to use as a carrier or a base oil. It is great for beginners, to experienced aromatherapists, and massage therapists. I absolutely love how it is organized, and how oils can be found by use, application, fatty acid composition, sap values, botanical family, etc! It really a great reference for anyone who is looking to make their own skincare products. Certainly a unique guide! I've been working with essential oils, making blends for years, and upon discovering this book, it has taken my blending practice to an entirely different level. Thank You!

This is a well-researched book about many, many carrier oils and butters; not essential oils. As a home-based formulator all of this information is extremely useful and valuable. The book itself is a teaching tool as well as a research tool. I purchased the paper book (two copies) and the kindle version so I have all of this wisdom & knowledge wherever I need it. I constantly refer to it and add my own notes within the pages. In fact it is the most dog-eared of all of my CosmeticChemistry/Aromatherapy/Perfumery/Herbology books! Highly recommended.

Great book on carrier oils! Very informative. Susan Parker really knows her stuff and she talks about them that is easy to understand. The reason I only gave 4 stars is that this book doesn't contain an index. I often refer back for information on a particular oil and I spend my time flipping through searching. The publisher should put in an index and re-publish!

If you are a formulator it should be your first buy . I throughly enjoyed reading this one . I have other books too but it written in such a way that your keep on reading and want to close the book . One of my top recommended for beginners.

Excellent! So glad a friend recommended this. I've counted over 85 carrier oils with lots of detail information on types of healing to use for-wound, skin, etc. Recipes, Skin Care, Massage, etc. But, the part I liked the best was the chemical analysis for these oils that I've spent so much time trying to find...and it's all covered in this book. I actually took an on-line Aromatherapy Course for this, but can honestly say I've gotten more from Susan's Book and all the details she has, than in the course. A Must Have!

Redactado de manera simple pero entrando en la parte química, de los ácidos grasos, los principios activos... Explica una buena cantidad aceites, mantecas y ceras. Casi al final del libro hay una parte con los perfiles de los ácidos grasos de los aceites indices de saponificacion etc... La verdad muy completo. La edición es tapa blanda, pero está muy cuidada. El único, pero que tengo es que las recetas son muy básicas, si ya tienes conocimientos.
