It's So Red!
This little fox arrived nearly a month in advance of its estimated arrival time. It even continued to say "being shipped" a few more days after I had gotten it. The box came in a parcel cover to keep it from being dented and scratched. Blemish free, which I love as I intend to cut the top out to frame. The model itself is just your standard shadow fox with a repaint, but boy the colors are just as gorgeous as the original. Some pieces are very small, so this isnt for small children or beginners. 10 out of 10 would get it again. Sadly that isn't likely, as these were limited edition, and no others have been made. The prices will only go up from here, way out of my price range.

One of the prettiest models I own!
The HMM Kotobukiya Fire Fox is one of the best HMM kits released so far. This kit is a great example of how Kotobukiya can churn out awesome redesigns for cool models, and the Shadow Fox design is one that many Zoids fans wanted to see put into the HMM style. They certainly nailed it right on the head, because this kit is one of my favorites that I have ever owned. The Fire Fox was originally a limited edition motorized kit, a recolor of the Shadow Fox that became a big hit with collectors. It's easy to see why, since the color scheme is gorgeous! I'd heard that Koto's rendition was great, and it certainly is. I was worried that the silver and gold wouldn't be very shiny and might even have some color marbling, but they don't at all and they sparkle in the light! It's definitely beautiful in person. The good:- Awesome poseability and movement. The legs on the Fire Fox have an AWESOME range of motion despite being so simple. The back mounted gatling gun has great direction and is on multiple joints. Even the tail has quite a few points of articulation!- Gorgeous colors. Every color on this kit is beautiful, the silver, the gold, the bright red, even the dark brown! Even without paint this kit is stunning in almost any lighting. The red is just a tad tricky to photograph.- VERY sturdy, almost never has loose pieces! The only problem piece I have on my Fire Fox is the small fin-like thing on the back of the body above the tail. It comes off if you move the tail too far up, but it's such a minor problem and it is very easily fixed with glue or model cement. The feet have come off once or twice, but for reasons in the next section. The bad:- The feet, sometimes. This is really very minor, but the feet have two separate 'parts'. The part that actually connects to the ball joint, and the toes/claws. The claws are on their own joint and can move up and down, while the ball joint itself in the ankle is pretty limited. The left to right movement is great, but the feet can't really point all the way down without looking a tad awkward because you have to point the toes separately from the ankle. It's not a big problem and doesn't really make a difference to posing unless you want his back feet to be straight if you pose him like he's running.- The head's ball joint. The head of the Fire Fox has a weird joint that connects it to the neck. The ball joint is also on a swinging joint inside the head, and because the ball joint is so much less stiff than the swinging joint, it's very hard to move that specific part of it. It's kind of hard to describe without a video or you seeing it yourself, but it's not too big of a deal. Especially if you're one of those people that pick a pose and keep your model in that pose forever.- If you want your Fire Fox to look exactly like the product photos, you're going to need a lot of paint. Usually I'm not too bothered by the amount of extra painting and detail they put into a Zoid's product photos, but the Fire Fox is very different once it's just been built. If you like the look of the mesh filters on the Fire Fox's shoulder armors, you'll need to paint that yourself. For some bizarre reason, only a tiny part of the inside of the ears of the Fox is brown, not the entire inside like shown in the product photos. The yellow cap on the neck of the Fire Fox is also unpainted, and not a separate cap. There a few other differences, but these were the most annoying to me. I like to paint my models, and eventually I'll have my Fire Fox painted like the one in the product pictures, but I'm a little disappointed that there was SO much to paint to get it to look like that. Don't get me wrong, it's still beautiful without all that paint, just don't expect it to look that detailed when you build it straight out of the box.Overall:If you like the HMM Zoids kits, get the Fire Fox. Already have the Shadow Fox? Get the Fire Fox anyway. It's awesome, and if you're having trouble picking between the Shadow Fox or the Fire Fox, I would go for this guy. He IS the 30th Anniversary limited edition, anyway! It's a great kit and you're missing out without it in your collection.
