The vendor immediately sent me a new one which works fine. it's quiet and efficient
The first one was defective and had to go back. The vendor immediately sent me a new one which works fine.it's quiet and efficient. my only gripe is the light sensor is way too sensitive so I need to run it in manual mode all the time. Also what they don't tell you unless you read the fine print is if you have hard water these type humidifiers may not be the best bet down the road unless you intend to buy filtered water which can get very expensive.

Arrived broken, but quieter and healthier than almost any other humidifier. Similar to the Venta brand
Unfortunately, the company I ordered from sent the unit from George to Seattle by UPS ground. After over a week of rough handling (a UPS specialty it would seem), the wheel unit arrived cracked. I had to send it back. But I did try it even it's wobbly state to see if it worked..Surprisingly, it did still work, if not optimally. It seemed to work comparably to a Venta. What made me try this over another Venta is that it had Plasmacluster technology, and I always loved that from Samsungs. I'm not sure it works quite as well as Samsungs variation does, but it's nice having it anyway.A downside from the Venta, I'd say, is that there's no specified fluid included or made just for the unit. The Venta fluid is antibacterial, and it also modifies the water in some way to make it stick more to the wheel. I'm guessing you could just buy Venta's fluid and use it in here. It's the same basic technology, with a few extra bells and whistles, like an auto mode, and auto-dimming screen. Both this and the Venta are completely evaporative, so the only thing you're putting in the air is 100% pure moisture. The best choice for children, the elderly, or anyone else who wants to ... well... live. I mean, honestly, nobody wants mold, bacteria, or weird chemicals in the air they breath, right? The hygrometer does seem to be accurate, which surprised me. (most humidifiers make wild guesses, some even using weekend newspaper grade astrology)Anyway, it gets the air up to humidity in just a few hours. While it does make the tiniest bit of noise, it's nearly silent compared to most other technologies. You don't have to worry about putting unwanted minerals and chemicals into the air as you do with ultrasonic, or with the extreme noise of wicking units from Honeywell, Lasko, etc. There's also no expensive wick to replace every few weeks, so even though you initially pay more for the unit, you pay very little in operating costs. The wattage is also intensely low, the highest setting taking no more than 15 watts. It's about as eco conscious as you can possibly get. Many humidifiers are dangerous if you don't use them right, and dangerous even if you do (like so many ultrasonics which put EVERYTHING in the air), so I'd definitely recommend either this or the Venta more than almost any kind of humidifier.Just make sure you order from somewhere near you or get air shipping. Preferably from FedEx. They're not perfect, but they're generally the gentlest out of them all.A note to Winix themselves: Being in a dark area (Seattle), sometimes the unit wouldn't go into daytime mode when in auto. I'd add some sort of adjustment to that. Also keep in mind that since this unit is so quiet even on the high speed mode, it wouldn't be much of a bother to run it full blast at night to get it up to the ideal of 50% humidity. Many people need the most moisture when they sleep, in fact. (my partner "dries out" at night, for example) So perhaps you can have a night mode that just dims or turns the screen off, but doesn't slow the fan speed down. Or make a manual screen off button. Or both. These additions would make for a heck of a version 2 that'll more firmly set you apart from Venta.

BEST humidifier I've had. Not sure about the "washing" part.
I'm not sure how well this actually "washes" the air as I have no way to really test air quality, but the water does get a little cloudy. BUT it does work GREAT as a humidifier. This system is super simple and it is able to put a large volume of water into the air in a short amount of time. It doesn't make a mess like ultrasonic humidifiers. There no need for filters or demineralization cartridges, which as AWESOME. Cleaning it is a breeze and emptying/refilling the basin is super easy. Also, it makes almost no noise. Very quiet. Overall, great product just for the humidifier.

Its an attractive unit but the digital readout for the humidity is consistently higher than what it should be by about 8%. I don't think it's an effective humidifier. I'm dissappointed.

quiet
The Winix is by far the quietest humidifier so far. It is easy to refill and there are no disposable filters.

So far, so good. No one bit of "hard water dust" to be found, which is a huge time saver.

Quiet and Effective
Very simple to use and works too. My dry and itchy skin are now gone. Humility is up in my apartment and even the plants are happy. Seems like well made and should last for a while. A little spendy for what is basically a fan blowing on a group of rotating disks, but it doesn't leave white powder all over the place like some other units or do you need to buy filters every few months and I am happy with that.
