Does anyone know how to get the top off?

Do you mean the lid of the jar? I have difficulty opening jars because of arthritis. I have one of those mesh mats for putting underglasses and suchlike. I cut mine up into handy sized pieces and have then all over the house for opening bottles, jars etc., They are life savers! If you mean the white inner top that keeps the contents fresh, there should be a tab on one side to pull it up and off. If there is no tab, you could use a knife, or letter-opener to prise it off.
