Spank Your Child, PLEASE!: A Book About Children by Former Child, Patrick Thompson Paperback – August 27, 2011

I like the effort that was put into this book into why you should spank your children please. I like that the author wrote a section about if there's a time and place for everything but I would have to say the writing could use a little work. He wrote a chapter about I have a dream where he talks about his experience with how to overcome racism and I thought that part was very informative as children need to work on judging a person by the content of their character but not by the color of their skin . I have to say that the title is very controversial but the reality is for anyone who really read this book would understand that there is a little tidbit covered about spanking. At the end of the day you as a parent have to decide how to raise your kids and as long as he turn out well you did your job regardless of spanking or no spanking. There's an old saying, don't judge a book by its cover . Read it first before you come up with an assessment .

I work with children and wish a bunch of parents loved their children enough to spank them. Yes children need discipline.

I am an early childhood professional and can attest to the harmful effects of corporal punishment. Mounds of research shows corporal punishment puts children at a higher risk of anxiety, depression, drug & alcohol abuse, domestic violence, brain damage, denial of pain, anger, aggression, learning problems, sexual dysfunction, and continuing the cycle of violence toward children. It even puts children at risk for health problems later in life. Children are HUMAN BEINGS that never deserve to be hit!

Someone needs to spank the author of this book! The concept of spanking children is as worse than spanking a wife. Gone are the days when it was deemed appropriate to discipline a wife through brute force. Why should we inflict abuse upon a defenseless child who did not ask to be born? Spouses choose their mates. Kids to not choose their parents. Spouses can leave their abusers. Children cannot. If we are to grow as a human species, we must first stop the violence - and the most heinous abuses of all are that which are inflicted on children.

This is a horrendous book. First of all, the writing is clumsy and full of cliches. It's obvious the person is not a professional writer. Secondly, it is very arrogantly written that this individual, who appears to have no real credentials (yet has "pools to draw from" cliche #1001) believes he has all the answers as to why all kids are running around undisciplined and "in pain." The kids won't be able to partake in the AMERICAN DREAM because they have lousy parents who aren't raising them with integrity. The author is delusional. It's stuff like this that encourages uneducated people to continue beating their children.I feel sorry for the baby in the author's profile pic. He's "cruising for a bruising."

Pure drivel and without merit. I can hardly wait for his next book, entitled "Punch Your Children in the Nose, PLEASE!"
