It slides on my tile floor—how can I get it to hold?

Turn the rubber tip to lengthen it so it presses firmly against the floor, and wipe both the tip and the floor clean, since dust cuts grip on smooth surfaces. Also keep the mounting screws tight so the unit doesn't flex.

How do I make the spring and hinge last with daily use?

Most wear comes from forcing it. Set the rubber tip so it meets the floor with firm but light pressure, release it by the pedal instead of letting the door pull against it, and check the screws every few months so the base stays tight.

Can I install this on a hollow-core or metal door?

Yes, with the right fastening. On hollow-core doors, mount it low over the solid bottom rail so the screws bite into wood, since hollow sections won't hold. On metal doors, drill pilot holes and use sheet-metal screws suited to the door.

Will it hold a heavy door open when it's windy?

Placement matters most. Mount it as far from the hinges as you can, near the latch edge, where the door has the least leverage against it. Set the tip for firm floor contact, and in strong gusts, closing the door is the safest choice.

It's hard to release with my foot—am I doing something wrong?

Usually the tip is set a little too long, so the stopper is wedged against the floor. Turn the rubber tip to shorten it slightly, then press the release point firmly with your toe. It should lift much more easily.
