Does it help with violins ?

I don't have a violin to hand, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work. I use it to correct intonation adjustments on my guitars and some notes are certainly within the violin range. My mandolin awaits repair, else I'd answer with more certainty. Any issues with the clip on for acoustic instruments included is usually improper placement on my part and easily remedied. Direct plug in tuning is flawless for guitars and basses. I haven't really used much of the other features so I can't speak to the quality of them, but it does a solid job at what I got it for, tuning and setups.
