A massive piece of junk like previous years!
What a piece of crap this turned out to be. This was purchased to replace an aged Buffalo Airstation of earlier model. setup was fair enough but frustrating, given that I was replacing a unit that was barely 2 years old. This one has been in place for about a month and a half now, powering 2 tablets, 4 laptops, 2 TV's, a DirecTV media box, an Xbox One, a gaming PC, and 3 phones. When it works, it works well with no issue. This is the tricky part, however. Since owning it, the unit has frozen up and failed to respond at least 3 times. The most recent was last night while watching Netflix, the unit simply froze without doing anything and began refusing pings from wireless and wired devices. I reset the unit before bed and woke up to find it frozen again while there was almost no network activity. Having to the basement several times to reboot this massive turd is frustrating and unnecessary. I will be returning this piece of crap and going to Netgear. Even though the DD-WRT feature is nice, it is virtually meaningless when this piece of junk fails to perform.

Fantastic router, just works
Fantastic router, just works. I bought it specifically because it comes with DD-WRT pre-installed and I didn't have time to screw around with figuring out which current hardware has best DD-WRT support. But what you don't see is that Buffalo is apparently not releasing DD-WRT updates for this: it appears that they leave it to the DD-WRT community, and the community wants to leave it to Buffalo. If it wasn't for this denial of support responsibility I would give it 5 stars.

2.4GHz only, NOT Dual-band.
The specifications here on the site list it as being 802.11a/b/g/n compliant, but it is only b/g/n. Its single-band, and therefore doesn't support 802.11a or 5GHz 802.11n.That being said, its pretty much exactly what I would expect from Buffalo. Rock-solid, and well-built. I purchased it to replace a 10 year old Buffalo WHR-G54S that couldn't keep up with my Internet connection.I purchased one labeled as Used, but the router itself was still in the factory plastic (box was open). The problem was that it was missing an antenna. I ended up purchasing a set of 9dBi Hi-gain antennas at a local computer shop.

Very nice router. Will probably switch to this as my default unit for client installations.

Not quote open-source
This "open source" router is ruined by Buffalo's lack of support for it. Despite the DD-WRT admins releasing new builds every few days, this router still only runs a build from October 2014. Buffalo's own product page for this router says that "all development, firmware updates, technical and configuration support will be provided by DD-WRT and the DD-WRT community." However, if you update it with firmware obtained from dd-wrt.com, then Buffalo will tell you that you have modified the router and will declare your warranty is void. Buffalo also refuses to provide their customized factory firmware from October 2014, either compiled or uncompiled. How they can call it "open-source" if they are not providing source? All things considered, if you want a DD-WRT router, you may want to avoid the frustration of dealing with Buffalo, and instead spend a few more dollars for a more popular model router from a different manufacturer offering better support.

Kill me now
Without exaggeration, I can say that this is the worst piece of kit I have ever purchased and that is saying a lot.Where do I begin? Let's start at the most egregious and most important one. Wireless and wired connectivity drop at least once a day, with two or three times being more of the norm. When I say drop, I mean that every single device that is connected to the router minus my directly connected PC loses connection. The devices say that they are connected, but looking at the status page on the router's web interface, it shows nothing is connected(minus the one PC). Nothing new can attach to the network, and nothing already attached can get anywhere on the LAN or the WAN. This requires a restart, which gets tiring when it's the third of the day.The firmware update mechanism fails every time. It gives an error stating "Error retrieving update information". Buffalo's website has zero downloads for this device. No updates, no original firmware, nothing. DD-WRTs website does not list this router in its database, meaning that it is not supported and will not work with new builds. I have no way to update the firmware to something that may fix the router without possible Herculean efforts.Access restrictions do not work. They are set up properly to remove WAN access at designated times, but it's all for looks, since it doesn't work at all.Scripts or cron jobs to auto-reboot the router work once, and then never work again. At this point, I wouldn't put it past this router to be actively plotting the downfall of the human race for the eventual robot uprising. Oh and icing on the cake was Buffalo tech support telling me that I had too many wireless clients connected to the router, and that was causing my problems. I guess i will need to start triaging who gets Internet today for my whopping 8 wireless clients. Please avoid this router. Seriously.
