Loved the books!

My mom who would be 95, taught me how to write backwards. She has an autograph book from back from her school years in which many of the entries are written in backwards handwriting. It is amazing. What fun that I like to share with students and friends....something that was a great pastime in years past.

While growing up I read multiple Roald Dahl books, with James and the Giant Peach landing at my all-time favorite, but didn't happen across Esio Trot until now. "Now" is well into adulthood. This 40-ish page book took about 30 minutes to read, including time to view the illustrations. The time was well spent. The story is sweet, silly, humorous, educational and wraps up with everyone happy in the end. The only thing this book seems to lack, which is so common in Dahl books, is someone "getting what they deserve" for their terrible behavior.

This is a fun book. My whole family loves it. The pictures are great. I noticed in the low-star reviews that someone was offended because the main character is deceptive and says he wants to make a woman "his slave." If you read the book, you will see that it is not meant to be taken seriously. It is very, very silly. It is a cute story about a shy man who secretly loves a woman and executes a patient plan to win her heart. It's kind of romantic.Recommended for kids and anyone who appreciates things cute and silly.

Very entertaining ... a fun read for child and her grandma during quarantine... I recommend more from this author for all.

Mira (just turned 8) - I would give it 5 stars because it was very interesting. It was so interesting that we finished it in only 2 nights. It was a very cute story.Mihaan (just turned 10) - I would give it 5 stars as it was a good story. I liked the part when Mr Hoppy lowered a hook to grab Mrs Silver's tortoise.

I really love Roald Dahl and I really liked reading Esio Trot but I'm only gave the book 3 stars because the book is awful compared to other of his books like George's Marvelous Medicine or Fantastic Mr. Fox. The book is short and not as clever as other books it only took me 15 minutes to read and I was bored and waiting for a turning point but the book did not have one.😢

Dressed up as a fun tale about a tortoise, this is a story which condones a man who steals from, manipulates and tricks a neighbour as a prelude to marriage.We've loved Roald Dahl so far in the form of The Enormous Crocodile and Fantastic Mr Fox, but this was a shocker. I don't think it's OK to say that it depends on what your child will take away from it either. It's stark and children are shaped by everything they see and hear.

I bought this after watching the Roald Dahl's most marvellous books for his 100th birthday, and because we were doing Roald Dahl day at school. I'd never read this one, so wanted to give it a go just for my own collection.I love it! The kids thought it was hilarious because it was about a man being in love (cue the 30 voices shouting "yuk!") but they also thought it was super happy at the end. Such a lovely, harmless little story and it was short enough that we could read it in only 3 sittings (with my 6-7 year olds, so we can't sit on the carpet for too long!). Would definitely recommend!

Very short and sweet read but totally understandable as it is a children's book! Although a very quick and very sudden ending. Kids love it and that is fair enough

Absolutely superb book and one that can be read by children and adults alike. Having watched the movie with Dustin Hoffman and Judie Dench and thoroughly enjoyed it was keen to read this. This is probably one of the only books I have come across so far of Roald Dahl's with a romantic element to it. I kept wondering what Mrs Silver what have done if she had known the truth of how her tortoise Alfie had increased in size ! :)
