Gates 36173 Drive Align Belt Drive Idler/Tensioner Pulley

Arrived in sealed factory box, name brand, installed perfectly, quiet.

Nothing bad to say about this pully. It does what it supposed to. I will say this pulley was replaced along with the 3 others and it really quieted down my 4L 2nd gen Tacoma's motor. I've only got a couple K miles on the new pulley but all is good.

Bad discrimination does not fit tensioner on 15 sienna like it says it does. I'm sending it back.

Had squealing sound and diagnosed to these stock Toyota tensioner wheels/bearings. Perfect fit, easy to install, may need a torque wrench to hit the 29#'s required. I would strongly recommend replacing all of them, it's very reasonably priced, why not. There are two #2 idler wheels needed (2 of Gates 36173 Automotive Accessories) and one #1 (Gates 36174 Idler Pulley) wheel needed, these are NOT the main belt tensioner assembly but the "helper" wheels. Parts were exact fit for 2005 4runner. Easy all around install! Super Impressed with Gates, never heard of them before but quality seems excellent! Made in Canada, NOT CHINA!!!!! More Gates parts are on their way now, so impressed.

The quality was great and the pulley fit well. The only negative is the bearing was not completely flush which caused the pulley to wobble. My mechanic seated the bearing and reinstalled the pulley. Worked perfectly after a minor adjustment so my recommendation is to do a quick inspection prior to installation to avoid any issues and additional labor. UPDATE Jan 7, 2025: After replacing three pulleys I noticed I still had a slight noise issue. Further troubleshooting determined the used (cosmetic) pulley I purchased from this seller was defective (noisy). My first clue should have been the requirement to reseat the wobbly bearing. It's too late to return the pulley and I would not want this pulley to be reissued to another customer. I will purchase this pulley again new to avoid headaches. Lesson learned.

Fits perfect for the upper pulleys, but to be honest there are cheaper ones that do the same. The others have been going great for 5000 miles and havent made a sound. This one's quite overpriced

Needed to replace my belt and decided to go ahead and replace the pullies while I was at it. Note to anyone doing it themselves, I thought I could just do it from the top, but it is WAY easier to get to these from the bottom. My engine made normal operating noises when idling, no squels or anything though so didn't actually think these would do anything, just wanted to change them while I got my hands dirty but after I replaced them, my engine idle was significantly quieter, so I guess I did need to change my pullies afterall, the old ones still spun just fine and didn't have any play but a fresh set helped. They're cheap enough that anyone doing a belt replacement might as well do these.

Fits exactly like oem and everything’s been running quieter than before

2003 4runner Limited 4.0L V6. It took 15 minutes this morning to change the serpentine belt (I used the bando one) and this #2 upper pulley fits perfectly and also felt sturdy. We shall she what the longevity looks like. I think I will order a second one and even the matching Gates for the lower #1 pulley.

Very disappointed with the quality of this pulley. After only one week of use, I noticed grease leaking out of the bearing, This raises serious concerns about the bearing seal quality and long-term durability. A pulley should last significantly longer than a week, especially considering the labour involved in replacing it. I would not recommend this product.

Plug and play. Slightly wider than stock 2005 4Runner idler pulley, but works great.

Bought it for my 2003 4runner. Very easy installation and fixed the noise I was hearing from the engine!
