Super close shave, easy to use and lightweight
Original review, Foil FX01: Seems like there's a bit of a misunderstanding with this shaver. You should use clippers or trimmers first and then this. This is for that last bit of stubble you want to get rid of (or just give yourself that 5 o'clock shadow). I've never had a shave so close with even a regular safety razor. Maybe it's just me finally getting the hang of a proper shave. I've shaved my face so close with this, it felt like my skin was silky, baby smooth. I was planning on getting the double foil shaver, but I'm not sure I feel the need, this does a great job. It does use standard batteries, but I've not yet had to put new batteries in this after a few months (and several shaves) of use. I'm very happy with it. I use my trimmers on my beard if it gets too long first and then this to get that close shave. One thing I've noticed is that this foil shaver will get clogged easily, so make sure you pop the top and use the included mini brush to clean out the "beard dust" or otherwise it will get bogged down and it won't be effective. The all metal design is nice, but not all of the shaver is metal, some of it is plastic with a chrome like finish. That's fine. It does pick up finger prints easily, but I don't mind. I'm very happy with it. Foil FX02 (added 6/20/23): I purchased the Foil FX02 a few days ago since Amazon had it 20% off. I couldn't resist the temptation to snag one. I've only had it a few days, but I'll give you my first impressions and I'll come back later and update the review again with more thoughts. Upon receiving the package in the mail, I noted how HEAVY this is. Taking the FX02 out of the box I immediately noticed 1) it's HEAVY, and 2) it's HUGE! Compared to the FX01, the FX02 is a monster. Some of the reviews say that the top piece on the FX01 only fits one way, but the FX02 top only fits one way as well (I'm referring to the piece that holds the foil, not the cover). Right off the bat I couldn't get over how large this thing is. I have smaller hands so for me, holding this is more like a half grip. You can't really wrap your hand around it like the FX01. The battery came with a charge so I was excited that I could use it right away. The charger looks a bit like a phone charger but the cable is permanently attached. The cord is very long, and it is advertised that you can use this while the charger is plugged in. The noise level of the FX02 is about the same as the FX01. It lets you know it's on. There is a slight delay between when you move the switch and when it turns on or off, presumably because there is some smarts in the circuitry to cut off the shaver when the battery is too low. On to the real test: how does it perform? I hadn't shaved in 3 or 4 days (last used the FX01 of course) so my facial and neck hair was a bit longer than the FX01 would've cut. The FX02 made quick work of my facial hair. The FX01 does a nice, close, baby smooth shave for me, at least on my face. The FX02 is a bit more capable with longer hair, and since it's larger you can cut more area at once with fewer passes. It's a good deal faster to shave with the FX02 than the FX01. That said, there are a few drawbacks: The FX02, because it's heavier and larger made my hand hurt holding it even for a few minutes. Perhaps I was gripping it too hard? With a gentle pressure on my face, I was able to quickly shave most of my face and neck to a nice clean look. However, it seems the FX02 leaves random hairs (like, a lot of them) on my face, and especially my neck. It's not enough to be noticeable, but you can feel them, and that annoys me because I want that baby smooth shave! With longer facial hair, the FX02 starts to pluck and pull and give you that pinching feeling like it's pulling your hair. The FX01 simply passes over longer facial hair, the FX02 grabs onto them and yanks. Also, I noticed a bit of irritation from the FX02 during and after shaving on one side of my fast. I'm wondering if this is because the FX02 is new and my FX01 is a few months old now and has worn in a bit, so I'll comment more on that later. To be honest, given how fast this cleaned up my face, I am happy. The FX01 might actually have done a little better on my neck. Why? It's smaller, so you can shave with less pressure and since it contours to the face better, the foil presses against the skin more. The neck is softer and more malleable whereas the face is boney and hard, so the FX02 does a better job on the face. That said, the FX01 is not great at neck hair either. Having experienced the FX01 and FX02 now, I think that the foil shaver should not come last, but rather should be the middle step between trimming (if your facial hair is long), foil shaving, and then a quick finish up with a good quality bladed razor, depending upon how well groomed you want to be that day. I'll admit, I never learned how to properly shave (I'm 37!), so I'm experimenting to figure this stuff out. Up until recently, I always used a blade to shave, even with long facial hair, but was horrified at how fast the razors would dull and get clogged up. With the foil shaver (and a good trimmer), I can get a decent shave in just a few minutes without using an expensive blade and shaving cream. So long barber shop!

Reliable foil shaver
Runs great on batteries. Not loud. Safe for face. Close shave longer lasting. Blades sharp.

Not worth the hype. Does not do what it’s supposed to.
If you like going over the same hair ten times before it’s finally cut then this shaver is for you. I bought into the hype over this product only to be let down big time. I get frustrated with it every time I shave. I can shave faster and cleaner with a razor than with this thing and still have time left over. The batteries run out very quickly as well. Way faster than any other shavers I’ve had. Since you have to go over the same area at least a dozen times you get razor burn bad. Skin irritation is zero stars. The shaver is very loud which I am okay with as long as it does a great quick shave. I wish I sent it back when I still had the chance. Save your money and use it on something else. I’m going to throw this shaver away tomorrow morning.

Good, but could be better.
I've loved my BaBylissPro Custom FX clippers, trimmers and double foil shaver, so buying this smaller, single barrel version of the shaver I already love for my gym/travel bag was a no brainer. I feel compelled to give this a review since opinions on this brand are polarizing. On one hand, you've got barbers raving about BaByliss as if they are THE brand to get, period. And the other camp, trashing the brand as a hype train thats really overpriced garbage. In my experience, the good opinions seem closer to the truth. Overall, this shaver is excellent for the price. But I'd easily pay 2x for a single foil, smaller form factor shaver that was more equal to the double foil in features. None of my complaints are a huge deal, but after having such a perfect experience with the double foil, the differences will be noticeable. You aren't JUST getting a smaller shaver. My minor gripes: • It's runs on 2x AA batteries (which are included). A rechargeable version would be great. ESPECIALLY for this version, which seems to fit into the product lineup as the travel companion to the double foil. It's nice to charge my stuff the night before I fly out, so I know it'll work for my trip. You never know when batteries are going to die, so if you need to be sure, you're going through batteries fast. • Unlike the double foil, the single foil version's cap only fits on one way. This is mildly annoying in day-to-day situations since you have to make sure it's lined up to put it on right. The potential upside to this is that the whole body of the shaver (+cap) is thinner and contoured, which should help it slide into a smaller pocket (but I don't put it in my pocket, nor see why anyone else would...) • It only seems to be sold in silver currently. Some people seem to love the metallic finishes... I dont hate the look, but the fingerprint situation is horrible and the slippery finish isnt my favorite. I much prefer the white matte/satin metal finish on my double foil version. Wish there were more options--or at least one non-metallic finish option. • The button that releases the foil housing is incredibly hard to push and slide up compared to the double foil version. Once you do, the razor coil inside will usually fly out--because unlike the double foil's razor, this one is only attached with a TINY notch. Again, I'm being as critical but for a fraction of the price of the double foil, there's nothing to really complain about. I'm going to be disappointed if I find out they release an upgrade in the near future though.

a small & effective powerhouse
When you first look at this shave looks and feels like a small toy. But it’s a real powerhouse that provides a close shave that does not irritate. However it might need to be combined with another shaver if you beard growth is more than a day or two. It’s best for daily use. Not rechargeable- 2 AA batteies only, dry shave only. Very well made & durable - all metal, no plastic. But the cover may pop off a bit too easily, and allow damage to the mesh head if it is it against a surface. I use a rubber band to insure that the cover stays in place. It’s s bit pricey, but worth it, especially with people who have a lighter beard growth. I don’t know if the replacement heads are equaly pricey and easily available. Aa with all surch shavers it’s best not to directly brush the mesh to clean it- it’s very delicate. Just blow out the debris now and then, and brush the cutter blader. I use a pr-shave powder stick for an even more comfortable & smooth shave.

Cuts well, but build quality is not great
I bought this as my barber uses a BaBylissPro shaver, albeit the one with two foil cutters. I love the compact size and now take it with me every time I travel. It cuts very well. However, I'm not happy with the build quality. The foil is attached to the metal hosing via four, very small little tabs. I have rough, course hair so I have to use a lot of pressure when pressing this against my face to get a clean cut. The foil detaches every time and I have to take it apart to reattach it, to continue cutting. I shouldn't have to do this with a brand new machine and cutting foil. It's easy enough to reattach, but it's a PitA having to stop and do this. I will order a new foil, to see if I just got a "lemon", but again, I shouldn't have to with a brand new machine. That said, when it works, it cuts well and having only one "blade" allows me to outline my mustache and beard, even though I still finish it with a straight razor. I would have gone with an Andis professional machine and might just keep this one in the travel kit.

Smooth after shave feel.
Held up pretty well for me. Not sure why it’s such low ratings on here I’m sure guys aren’t replacing batteries and keeping up with maintenance on the machines. They need to be cleaned out every now and then depending how much you shave especially considering it’s a single foil shaver. Leaves my skin smooth. Saves time. Battery life depends on the batteries you use. Other than that. It’s probably shipping issues why the ratings might be so low but so far it’s held up pretty well for me.

Same one my barbershop uses.
These are great. Excellent build, no charging cables to rebuild, feels solid and heavy. Didn't realize I could get the same shaver as the barber for an excellent price.

Is a really good product!!
I like the Babyliss PRO. The product, in general, is very good, has a clean-cut, and doesn't cause me irritation when I shave my head.

Review for BaBylissPRO FXFS1
I’ve been using this shaver for over 2 years now (about 1-2 times a week), and it still works amazingly well. The foil cuts clean and close, giving a true skin-cut look whether I use it for my beard or for finishing haircuts. It trims evenly without irritation and handles even fine hairs with ease. What’s really impressive is the battery life. I haven’t had to replace it yet, and it still holds a strong charge. The build feels durable and professional, and it’s easy to clean and maintain.

Good product !
It’s heavy and does the job well. Teenage son likes it except it’s on the noisier side. Overall a good product !
