Friends Hardcover – Picture Book, April 1, 2013

Short, with only simple text the images carry the story. The story follows the 'stages of friendship' with amazing art work that's both fun and relatable to our toddle. I found this book a great aide in talking to my daughter (2 1/2 year old) about her day and her relationship to her schoolmates. She might not be able to label or give accurate account of her relationships, she is able to understand the context of each picture and relate it to her own life. This story helps the both us to understand and give context to her complex social life.The characters in the story are 'monsters' much like those on Sesame Street. If you are someone that objects to such things, this isn't your book. Pity too, its a great book. The pictures are colorful and lively. They convey a sense of fun and excitement. I think I like this story better than my daughter. If you enjoyed  Happy  than you should enjoy this book as well.

Providing rich illustrations which show emotional states that occur in friendship -- both the rain and the sun of relationships -- with very spare use of words. The picture book enables a young child to read the pictures and reading pairs or groups to discover the story's episode together.

A wonderful book in terms of its simplicity and humor, yet the words convey much more. Great for discussions with little ones and the fabulous illustrations in oil pastel are a wonderful complement to the thoughts and ideas.
