Hurriedly published or just sloppily edited?
This book falls between a text of various Yamaha trumpet artists pontificating on what they think makes for a good approach to the instrument and a variety of exercises that seek to help the player develop those abilities. At approximately 97 pages long, over 50 pages are spent giving brief biographies of the player, explaining the Yamaha corporation's philosophy, and also listing all the various Yamaha trumpets the performers use. There are several errors in the musical studies. None of these are that difficult to see if someone had bothered to actually play through them. In short, for the price, the book is a disappointment. Too much irrelevant text and not enough actual music / etudes to play. Reads like an informercial for Yamaha products.Bottom line: not recommended. Buy Alan Vizzutti's 3-volume trumpet method instead.

Great book! Lots of mistakes!
I have really enjoyed reading and incorporating these tips and tricks into my own practice routine. A lot of great "nuggets" from the pros. It's always great to see how other people approach the horn and can help rejuvenate your own playing and keep you from being in a rut. However, was this book even edited? Even once? There are probably 2-3 errors per page. And not little things like grammar, but actual notes and obvious accidentals. How are there so many mistakes in slur exercises on the same digital patterns? I don't think this is the fault of the contributing artists and the mistakes aren't so egregious that you can't figure out the exercises. I, however, guarantee you that if the editor sat down *once* and played the book cover to cover he/she would be able to catch all the mistakes. It's kind of embarrassing to teach a lesson with a 9th grade student and have to point out and correct all the mistakes. If Carl Fischer is looking for an editor or would like me to submit an errata to the book (I used to be a librarian in the Navy Band) I would be happy to do so. If they would like to send me a second version of the book with the corrections, that would be great, too!Overall, the information is excellent! The execution seems fumbled and rushed.

Yamaha étude and exercise Book for Trumpet (The Secrets of Eight Masters)
This a fantastic book where great trumpet players shared with readers their "secrets" on how to be a successful trumpet player. Great presentation, fine paper and fine quality altogether. Thanks for putting together this wonderful book.

Worth Owning!
This is a terrific book. It not only gives some, very, useful exercises, but the noted players explain how, and why, they use them. I would have give the book 5 stars if it had included a cd of the players playing their chosen pieces.

Really excellent, neat read.
I really do like this and it is what I expected. I just wish there was more. I can tell the book was edited, not to get too long winded on some things.

Wish this book was around fifteen years ago.
This is a great book. Do not know what some people are talking about when they say the book is full of mistakes. I think it is full of good advise and well worth the price.
