Convenient
I bought this product to use with my 6th generation ipod Nano and Sony STR-KS370 receiver, and I'm loving it! I'm no expert on sound quality, but it doesn't seem to me that this docking station has compromised it in any way.I mainly just play the ipod Nano with the TV off, and this setup is great for that. Just turn the receiver on using the AV remote, select the correct input and hit play. It's really nice and convenient. However, I do wish that I could do more with the remote other than skip/rewind songs and adjust the volume. Hitting the menu button gets me back to the main screen on the Nano, however it doesn't seem like I can select any of the Nano options once I'm there. Or, maybe I just haven't figured out how. ;) Either way though, I don't really mind just selecting the options on the actual ipod. Plus, it's not like I can really see the screen while using the remote if I'm more than a few feet away anyway. As far as the TV display goes - it works really well; allows the user to select the artist, song, playlist, etc. The display itself is a bit old-school, though; kind of DOS-looking. But it works. There was just one misunderstanding with it - I was under the impression that the TV display would automatically work once I plugged the TDM-iP50 into the appropriate port...but it turns out that I was required to connect the TDM-iP50 directly to the TV as well. It wasn't an issue for me personally because the cord was already supplied with the unit and there was an AV input on the TV that wasn't in use, but I guess it could be an issue for others if they don't have enough available inputs.Overall, I definitely recommend the TDM-iP50. It's a great product that is easy to use, and it has not given me any problems in the month I've owned it (and I use it daily).

Great Adapter and Sound for a Sony Stereo Head Unit -- On-screen GUI for iPod isn't very aesthetic
Two changes I wish for though...1. I wish there was a button on the remote control that I could switch between "self-tap" mode (where you physically change the song or playlist on the iPod) and the "on-screen GUI" mode (where you use the stereo system's remote to change the song, etc.). The only way I've figure out how to change between these two modes is to physically press the button on the unit, which sort of defeats the purpose if you want to change the song on your sofa without needing to get up if you have it in "self-tap" mode.2. The aesthetic view of the "on-screen GUI" mode is horrible. Why couldn't they have shown album artwork when looking at songs? All you see is text, and that is the exact opposite experience that I normally expect to have when I'm using my iPod. I don't think this is an Apple problem either... it's just Sony being lazy and not programming this unit with those capabilities.I know this sounds like from above that I wouldn't recommend this add-on... however, I still highly recommend it if you have a Sony Stereo head unit. The sound is amazing and it charges the iPod. The only thing I am miffed about is the fact I paid over $50 for this product, and it's nothing more than a cable to hook my iPod into my stereo system -- and I was hoping it would have all the features and functions I was hoping for considering the price. But again, you can't beat the sound quality it produces -- it's so much better than listening through the iPod's headphone jack. Buy with confidence you will get great sound, but not great visuals.

The Best Way to Connect Your iPod to your Sony Receiver
I've had a Sony receiver for years now that had a dmport for this and I never thought of using it. I like playing my iPod on my receiver but have been using analog connectors from the headphone jack. I prefer a digital connection whenever I can get one so I was glad to find out about this when I was browsing through the manual.I tracked this down, connected it and am very pleased with the ease of use and boost in audio clarity from this connection. Using the on screen GUI on my receiver, I can select tracks and playlists on my iPod from the TV, using the receivers remote. I can also manually control the iPod which I almost prefer when looking for an artist or album. It's just much quicker that way. The Media Port also charges my iPod when in use or powered off. It doesn't even need to be plugged in to an outlet which was good news for me because I didn't have any more left. :)I was so close to getting a new receiver for a USB and iPod control port. Now I don't have to. I can't believe I had a simple solution like this available for all these years. Better late than never I guess. I know Sony doesn't use the dmport feature on their newer receivers, so for owners of older ones like mine who want a digital connection for their iPod, this is a great option Highly recommended.

Sony TDM-iP50 Digital Media Port
I bought this unit to connect an IPOD Touch and an IPOD Classic to a Sony HT-CT-100 Home Theater system. The set up is simple. Just plug the digital media port into the DMPORT slot on the back of the home theater system. For on screen programming just plug the composite video cable into the back of the TDM-iP50 and to a composite video in jack of the TV. I connected an IPOD Touch to the base unit and pushed the OPR button as instructed. The home theater controller controls the IPOD Touch, the on-screen display works and even plays movies that my daughter has recorded. The IPOD Classic also connects without using either of the two provided adapters. I have only had this unit for a day; however, it appears to work exactly as advertised. One potential problem is that the connector between the TDM-IP50 and the IPOD Touch looks fragile. The instructions say to be careful to insert and remove the IPOD at the same angle as the connector, which is tilted back from perpendicular. I will have to see if the connector stands up to use by my 9 year old and 15 year old daughters. So far, I am completely satisfied with this product.
