Great Reeds
I originally tried these reeds by using the Vandoren Jazz Mix which also includes the Java Green, Red, and ZZ. The reviews for the Jazz Mix favored the Java Reds, but I ended up liking the Java Greens and these V16s the best.I use the #2 1/2 V16s. They are just a bit thicker at the base and rank about a "#2 3/4" on the Vandoren scale. They work just as well for me playing everything from show tunes to marches to jazz. I use these reeds with a Vandoren A6 or Meyer 6 mouthpiece on Selmer Mark VI and Yamaha 62 altos.I am another older player and do not feel like playing "tongue depressor" reeds anymore. The 2 1/2 V16 reeds are very comfortable and I can reach every note I need to play when I need to play it. If I feel good, I'll use a #3 Java Green, but for 90 percent of my work, the V16s are great!

My sons preferred reed
My son is a sax student. He is currently in his third year of instruction. This is his preferred reed and they are the same reeds that he can buy from his instructors (for a dollar a reed!).

The "reed for me"!
I'm a seasoned jazz alto player, been playing for over 30 years-- Tried many brands and strengths of reeds, and this V16/#2.5 seems to be the one most easy to live with. When I was younger, like many of my peers, I'd play #4 reeds and brag about it-- When you get older you realize that you don't need lips of steel (nor do you need reeds as thick as surfboards) to play good music. So I settled into 2.5's and these play nicely, with good tone and the quality is pretty consistent from reed to reed -- If not, I just shave them down as needed. A good reed for the seasoned player who is confident enough that he doesn't need to prove anything.

Love the V16 line
I love the V16s. They are just a little thicker at the tip and have a great jazzy tone. I play on some very cheap instruments (Mendini) and they definitely make them play even better. I didn't find a bad reed in the whole box.

excellent reeds that provide the most ideal sound even for beginners
These are excellent reeds. Both of my young daughters use this brand. It is very important to start your children out with very good quality reeds to give them the best shot towards success. They are expensive but they are wonderful confidence builders. The kids will not use any other brand at this time and we have convinced the band director to recommend these to all his students.

Quality built and they work great
I bought these for my son who has been playing alto for a couple of years. He has been using cheap reeds and had some issues with higher notes. His teacher recommended these and after using then he hasn't gone back. Well worth the money.

Dark and full jazz sound
"Thickest jazz cut from Vandoren". I bought these on the recommendation that they provide a better sound for more intimate settings (cafes, lounges, smaller rooms). They completely lived up to their billing and I was very pleased with the dark and subtle sound I received from this style. I primarly use the vandoren ZZ jazz cut for all my jazz, but I may consider switching to this reed.

Quite stiff
I found the reeds a little too stiff for me but after rubbing down a little they were fine.
