Permanent Herbal Haircolor Gel, 4C Ash Chestnut, 4 Ounce

I love it. I have used all the big box brands forever and now that I am pregnant I needed to tone it down because I know I would not be able to handle the stench from the hair dyes I normally go to.I did some research and found this. Not perfect on chemical free but better than most. I put the hair dye on and much to my surprise, was not blasted with a horrible smell. I actually didnt smell much of anything, which was music to my super sensitive pregnancy nose!Much to my also surprise, this covered all of my grey hair, leaving nothing behind. That NEVER happens with multiple other brands. Usually I can find grey somewhere but this time, total, 100% coverage. I would definitely recommend this product if you have trouble covering and keep color in your dark hair. I got the 4C Ash and just love it.There area few downsides, one is that the time this stays in is longer than most other products, its 30 minutes.The other downside is my hair felt like straw when washing this out. I ended up using my own heavy duty repair conditioner and that did the trick.All in all, the lack of horrible stench and the full grey coverage is exactly what I need so I will recommend this product, particularly to those with sensitive noses.

The ash chestnut came out as dark black - I look like a witch!

I have tried many varieties of boxed semi and permanent hair coloring kits and this is my favorite one yet. I have curly hair that's on the thinner side and am greying salt and pepper style all over. I dye my hair to cover my greys, not to change the color so I try and find the closest to my natural hair color as possible. With other kits, my biggest complaints were either that the process killed the texture of my curly hair, making it frizzy and drying it out beyond repair or that it did not completely cover my grey. The Herbatint dyes work gently on my hair and cover my greys better than any other product I've tried, all while looking really natural. A couple of things you should know about this brand though: 1) To get full grey coverage, you need to mix their "C" line colors with a matching "N" line. So if you want full grey coverage, I recommend also buying the 5N equivalent of this brand. There are instructions on how to do this, including mixing proportions, in the kit. 2) The colors run pretty dark. My natural color is a fairly dark chestnut (I usually buy other brands in "4N") but this light ash chestnut is perfect for me. The first time I purchased this, I used the 4N and it was FAR too dark and made my hair look pretty much black.

Upon opening the product, I noticed that no shaker bottle or mixing container was included. In my experience, similar gel-based hair dyes typically come with one, so I had to improvise and use a small disposable bowl to mix the dye.When dispensing the color, the product initially appeared very red, which made me concerned that the shade would not match the 4C color I purchased. However, once mixed, the color developed into more of a brown tone, so I decided to proceed.One issue I found unpleasant was the scent. The dye has a very earthy smell, and even after drying my hair, the odor remained noticeable.On a positive note, the gray coverage seems effective so far. I’m interested to see how well the color holds up over time before needing another application.Although it says it's natural, it gets a 31/100 rating on the Yuka app.

It dyes your hair well and lasts a long time. The main thing is to choose the right color. I was left with the impression that it dyes your hair half a shade darker. I highly recommend it.
