Is the center bundle meant to untie with use ?

I can't tell you if it's intentional but I've had two of these and as soon as they hit hot water the curls at the bottom straighten and the center bundle undoes itself. As far as I can tell if doesn't harm the functionality of the product but it is rather odd. I've also noticed that the first few times it goes into hot water it puts off an odd smell and colors the water yellow. I tend now to soak it until the water runs clear.

Question 2

I see they have skinny chasens. What would be better to get?

I own both, and I have to say for versatility's sake, skinny is the way to go. When I use the traditional squat one, I have to mix my matcha first in a small bowl, then I have to pour it into the mug I'll drink it out of. Honestly, whether the matcha is in a traditional chawan or a mug, it tastes the same. I'm a busy person and 2 handed tea drinking is not practical.

Question 3

I'm new to drinking matcha green tea without the tea bag. Do i use my tea infuser? And if so, do I steep first then whisk it up or ??

For Matcha Tea or tea latte, you put the tea power directly in a bowl, wisk in hot water.  Standard would be 1/2-1 teaspoon of matcha per 1 cup hot water.  Wisk until tea is dissolved, add honey or any sweetner, for a latte, add 1 cup frothed or steamed milk.  Also, make sure to soak the wisk in water for a few seconds before wisking to soften the bamboo.

Not related to Matcha but I use it to stir my coffee in my French press so I don't accidentally crack the carafe.
It is perfect for that.  It's become very brown over the years.  One of my favorite kitchen implements.  Sometimes I mix coffee and matcha, kind of green cafe du monde.  I'm sure I loose all credibility now.:)  Thanks for the other suggestions.  The comment that this is a tea ceremony set is a good reminder.
