Zurn Wilkins RK114-NR3XL - Pressure Reducing Valve Repair Kit

Package arrived timely. Parts were well packaged and good quality. Instructions easy to follow. Happy with results and water pressure problem resolved.

The repair kit comes with a complete cartridge replacement with O-rings and other hardware to service your pressure regulator. I was experiencing water pressure issues in my home and after doing some research I was able troubleshoot and replace the faulty cartridge. Replacing the cartridge was pretty simple as long as you have have the required tools. Zurn has a youtube video on how to inspect and replace it.

Our PRV is an older NR3 (which has since been discontinued and replaced with NR3XL). It had been leaking out of the top where the locking nut and adjustment bolt is. It finally started leaking enough to leave a puddle on the garage floor, so we ordered this repair kit. Got everything disassembled and reassembled with the new internal parts in less than 30 minutes and now we continue to have perfect water pressure with zero leaking.

I'm so happy that this repair kit is available. The 1.25" part with the brass body and black plastic cup is currently $358 on Amazon, so this repair kit at 25% that cost is a great value. It took me ~20min to remove the old and replace with new. The included written instructions are great, but I also watched the Zurn video online ahead of time to understand what I was getting myself into.That said, I did already own an 18-inch pipe wrench and vice-grip pliers which made this job easier. I tried to remove the black plastic cup with just my hands and even a strap wrench, and it was a no-go for me. The pipe wrench made that part easy. Once open, extracting the cartridge assembly with regular pliers was not easy. Vice-grip pliers and a little wobbling is what it took to pull out the old one. Getting the new parts in is much easier than taking them out. They include a tube of silicone grease.Even if you don't have a pressure gauge, it's impossible to exceed maybe 80psi no matter how you set the adjustment bolt.Another hint is to fill up a large bucket of water and have some clean rags to clean off/wipe out the inside of the brass body and black plastic cup. Mine were rusty inside from the old parts and it made me feel better to clean them.For those asking what the big black plastic ring/washer is, it's the "union gasket" that's shown on the repair kits contents drawing with the asterisk. They only include one in this repair kit. If you don't loosen the union nut on either side of the brass body (mine wasn't leaking, so I didn't touch it), you won't need to replace this.

Easy rebuild, just make sure you remove the old o rings as they stick and stay behind.

This unit provides all of the parts and instruction required to rebuild your pressure regulating valve. If you have any DIY concerns, watch Zurn's excellent YouTube video. They even include the little bit of silicone lube that you want to use. I'm a picky engineer/mechanic and would complain - but there is nothing to complain about.

My Wilkins water pressure regulator was leaking, so I bough this item to fix it. I had never done such work, but watched a video on YouTube that was very informative. I had no issues installing it correctly the first time. It came with everything needed including the lubricant.
