A nice box set of Opinel's
These are great little knives for light duty tasks. Very lightweight and a neat design. With this box set you get all in this model range but the largest Opinel, which is HUGE and not real practical. The tiny ones in this set are maybe good for fingernail duty at best and do not lock. They're folding only.I had to sharpen/touch up several of the blades which was a little disappointing but they took a great edge like the ones that came sharp from factory. Not a huge deal as I enjoy putting an edge on a blade and consider myself and my technique very good, but expected all to be sharp being factory new.A couple things to consider with Opinel's:I got Stainless Steel because of the corrosion resistance so the carbon steel ones rust easily and will require more maintenance. Personally, I don't find either composition harder/easier to sharpen if you know what you are doing.Opinel blade thickness is very thin so keep that in mind for your intended tasks.

A nice set however...
This is a nice set, a good option for collectors. However some of the knives were stained/soiled and I had to clean and polish them. Seems like Opinel would have taken better care before packaging. I had to use a Dremel tool with a polishing wheel on the No.12 as it had bad stains. In addition the No. 12, the largest knife, was not sharpened properly. It had large burs on both sides and I had to use my sharpening stone to remove them - again Opinel should have taken better care. Here are their instructions for sharpening:1. Lightly wet or oil the stone.2. Hold the knife at a 20 degree angle. Start with the base of the blade at the top of the stone, and as you move along the stone, the blade should also move, so that you end at the tip of the blade.3. A burr (build up) will form on the opposite side of the blade. Remove this by performing the same movement on the burr side, with very light pressure.4. To finish off, lightly pass both sides over the stone, twice. They did not do #3 or #4 on the large knife. So buyer beware...I would rate this set 5 Stars NOW that I have "fixed" it, it looks good and is nicely priced, but 4 Stars as Opinel delivered it.

Missing/Duplicate knife in set
The knives are fine other than the set included 2 #7 knives, and no #8.******I am revising up because the manufacturer and seller both responded and sent a replacement for the missing part. Excellent customer support.

Lovely product. Very sharp.
Purchased as a gift for a friend. For the money, a lovely set. Very sharp. Easy to sharpen. Take care in using. They need TLC, handwashing, etc.

Not Sharp at All Whatsoever and Damaged Blades
I'm finding it difficult to believe that this Opinel set is extremely dull. It barely passes the paper test. I can barely slice paper and it feels like I have to saw the knife in order to slice the paper. This is a laughable joke. Opinel's should not be this dull out of the box.In addition, my No.9 and No.10 came with a damaged blade. I am returning this junk. I will purchase this set directly from Opinel instead.

I got that second set now. What a price for these great knives. A good day to be a knife guy.
OK. I have bought about 10 different Opinel knives in the last couple years, half I gave to friends. It is an unusual folder, light, sharp, locking, mid and large styles lock and everyone acts like I spent much more than I did on the one I gave them. I bought this set, intending to give them away as gifts, from time to time, with some left for Daddy. Now, I find, I can't break up the set. I'm about to order a second set. A second swing at the giving them as gifts. Wish me luck.
