Fel-Pro VS50531R Valve Cover Set - same as original on my 2002 VW Jetta GLS with the 1.8t engine
My car was emitting an occasional burned oil smell when I accelerated quickly. Upon inspection, I noticed oil stains all around the engine valve cover and inside the spark plug holes. I decided to change the gaskets and spark plugs at the same time. For the spark plugs, I went with original equipment: NGK (6458) PFR6Q Laser Platinum Spark Plugs. For instructions and tips on changing the gaskets, I used you tube. There are many videos so pick a few to become familiar with potential obstacles that will be encountered while removing the valve cover. Just make sure to remove bolts, screws, and hoses whenever possible instead of just bending things out of the way. This will help to prevent any unfortunate mishaps with broken parts.Anyway, once the valve cover is removed, I cleaned as much of the dirty oil buildup from all parts that I could including the mating surfaces of the engine and valve cover. I especially made sure not to allow any dirt or other foreign material to fall into the open engine.Installation at this point is simple; however, since parts of the gaskets are rigid, it will need to be installed onto the valve cover screws evenly. It does not need a lot of force so just work it back on carefully. The 9 valve cover nuts should be tightened in a criss cross fashion to ensure even pressure applied across the valve cover. The nuts need to be tightened to a torque of 7ft lbs. I didn't have a torque wrench small enough so I just made sure to tighten evenly and to not apply to much pressure - 7ft lbs. is not a lot of torque so be certain to not over tighten. The quality of the Fel-Pro gaskets appeared to be at least as good as the original gaskets that I replaced and fit perfectly as well. I would definitely recommend.

I was very happy to get this in.
I have been dealing with leaks for some time with the most noticeable issue being oil loss and bad smell when oil evaporated off the top of the turbo and exhaust manifold. New Gasket has these issues so I am a happy camper. I installed on a 2002 Passat wagon with the 1.8T engine.

I'd put this on my mama's 1.8T
I can comfortably say that this set meets or exceeds quality of the genuine VW / Audi gasket set.Better than Elring (more crush), and WAY better than Victor Reinz (these suffer heat fatigue prematurely). One odd thing - the set includes the half moon seal that sits beneath the camshaft adjuster unit, but does NOT include the adjuster unit gasket. So.... Basically an extra part that you can only use if you reuse or replace the cam adjuster base gasket. No big deal. Maybe they'll update the kit at some point.

Perfect fit
This was a perfect fit for a 2001 Audi A4 Quattro 1.8T. Nice compliant rubber compared to the stiff and leaking set that I took out. It was leaking so bad that I burned 1L of oil every 1000 miles, and there were oil puddles in the spark plug wells. VW/Audi should have used a different gasket design for the spark plug wells - I can see these flat seals leaking again. This set came with a small sheet reminding me to add a thin coat of RTV to the corners and half moon. The only thing I wished it had was a torque sequence and torque values. I Googled the torque value and got 7 ft-lbs as the generally accepted value.

No more leaks
Being a weekender DIYer and not a mechanic by any means just watched online how to replace the gasket on my 2002 Passat I replaced the gasket took awhile to perform but that's what you do is learn how to do this type of work on your car was a little tedious but went well and the gasket was a perfect fit no more valve leak no more oil in spark plug wells all good π

Get this if you're changing the tensioner
If you're changing camshaft tensioner then get this gasket set. The white half moon that comes with this set fits properly. The blue half moon that came with the tensioner did not fit properly.

Instructions unclear blew up my engine.
Fit a 2005 Jetta 1.8L L4 Turbo.Says to apply gasket maker to 4-6 sections in the most confusing and unclear way. (Will update with photo if I can find the paper.)But was along the lines of "where the 4 plugs meet at a 90 degree angle and the two semi-circular areas."That was it.Like I woulda been happy with a photocopied hand drawing, I was also under the impression you arent supposed to use gasket makes with these. :|
