Enjoyable watching.
I am unable to get to see the National Trust properties now. These hold good memories and an insight into the houses I haven't seen.

Hardwick Hall - more glass than wall - a jewel of Tudor architecture.
Hardwick Hall is one of the most important buildings in English architecture. The DVD shows how the Hall represents the transition from medieval building to the use of the new ideas of the renaissance. It illustrates how these elements are represented on the inside and the outside of the building. The story of life in a grand Tudor establishment is unfolded for us as are details of the life of its builder, Bess of Hardwick who married her fourth husband George Talbot and became Countess of Shrewsbury. Bess was the richest woman in England after Queen Elizabeth I and her granddaughter was a claimant to the throne on the death of the old queen. The tapestries, furnishings and plaster wall friezes at Hardwick are of national importance and have been uniquely preserved because the house was neglected as a dwelling after the building of Chatsworth House nearby. Whether you can or can't get to Derbyshire to visit the house itself, this DVD is a very useful illustration of its purpose and the treasures lying within.

Great set but not the same sleeve as shown in photo of the item
The DVDs doesn't come with the original National trust box as show in the photo advertised, not that it would impair the enjoyment of the set but just letting future buyers beware. Good set nonetheless. Bought it for dad who can't actually travel to all these places.

Fantastic collection
This was an outstanding box set. The quality of the DVDs was superb and it was great to be an armchair tourist looking around these amazing buildings with NO CROWDS!!

Into the Heart of Hardwick Hall
This DVD formed the first episode of an Artsworld series called `National Trust: National Treasures', narrated by Nigel Havers. It opens with beautifully-shot aerial and distant views of the house in winter sunshine. But there are no views of the upper banqueting halls above the roof, and neither is there any detailed view of the gardens or grounds (apart from the quarry). As well as the exterior of the house, we see inside and also focus on some of its treasures, such as its tapestries, portraits and furniture. One aspect in particular that garners much attention is the conservation of the Gideon tapestries in the Long Gallery; these are held up by Velcro! There are also interviews with those who work in the house and on the estate. This is an enjoyable and interesting insight into the workings and history of the house, and can be recommended both for those who are about to visit and for those who would like a souvenir. Unfortunately there is an element of docudrama regarding Bess of Hardwick, but thankfully the acting is done in silence and is relatively short in duration.

This year we have not managed to visit any National Trust properties because of the pandemic. We have visited some of the properties but not all and they are very interesting and informative.
