Loved it so much i got another.
I received this model of toaster when I got married back in 2005. After 18 years of regular use I placed a hot pan on the counter and melted the front some. Still worked though. I got a second one to replace it and put the old one that still works in my camper trailer. I have nothing but love for this toaster. It toasts bread evenly and consistently. The finish holds up great after years of regular use. Buttons feel firm with an led indicator next to each one so you know what button you pressed. Cord length has never been an issue and shows no signs of wear where you would normally expect to see it. It is sleak with a vintage look. Comes in several colors so it can be matched to your kitchen. I have even taken it to work for breakfast potluck and others even commented how much they loved it. I will buy this again if mine ever dies. But it won't. It will continue to live forever. Buy this toaster! You'll love it also!

High-Luster, Retro-Style, Toasts Beautifully! We LOVE it!
I shopped around pretty hard for this toaster because I was really reluctant to buy one. I'm the only person in our household of three who really doesn't eat bagels, toast, bread, etc....and on top of that I LOVED my Grandmother's toaster that was from the 1950's that I had been using both for sentimental reasons as well as because it was the old, shiny steel (shaped almost like this one) and even had a fabric cord. It was probably a heinous fire-hazard....but I loved it and it lasted until recently when we heard a "POP" and my beloved toaster was done. I didn't want anything modern-looking or bulky (especially since I don't use it and we have very limited counter space) and I'd have really preferred one of those stylized, retro models that are outrageously priced and have no real qualifications for the high price other than perhaps the awesome colors and design. When I came upon this Oster and realized I could have Purple and still get the fairly retro stylizing AND for a great price I was suspicious. How could it be pretty, retro, cost-efficient, and still perform well? But it really does perform. My boyfriend loves to stuff giant "everything" bagels into the toaster and he uses it most. He even suggested I get a "bagel" specific toaster (*shudder*) and I wanted to avoid one of those huge eyesores with every fiber of my being. He's really satisfied with the sizing of this for bagels and no more digging them out with knives!! The extra "spring" advertised when the toast/bagel pops up actually works really well and pushes up even the fattest Deli Bagels. No messes or fussing. The crumb tray is excellent because I'm VERY obsessive about finding crumbs on counters and this one leaves no trace (we put it away when we're done and I have to say....I wish it could be left out because it's so pretty). The heat distribution is really even and this actually tends to toast a bit darker than needed rather than lighter. This simply means you should set this lighter than how you want your toast/bagels to turn out. The built in buttons work great, but we don't use them often. My 13 year old son tends to use them more than anyone since he spaces out/forgets he's toasting something/forgets to check the darkness setting. This is fast, quiet, even-heated, and compact enough for any kitchen. The photos are actually terrible because this is a very high-luster purple and the toaster itself does NOT look like cheap plastic like this advertising photo makes it appear. It's shiny and attractive just like "other" models and the slots are wide and have quality and durable caging. If you were to need to get inside of the slots, you'd be able to do so easily and see what you're doing (unlike older styles or cheaper models). I still can't believe what a steal this was and considering I didn't want a toaster at all....I don't feel like I wasted money OR put something ugly in my kitchen. We're all fussy about different things in this family and this toaster suits the penny-pincher, the design-enthusiast, and the forgetful teen. I would buy this toaster again and again! We love it!

Don't let the price fool you, this is the toaster to buy.
The Oster was recommended by a website we consult for thorough product testing. It was the cheapest toaster they tested and outperformed toasters 4 times the price. We tend to dislike buying cheap, disposable appliance (or anything cheap and disposable, for that matter), we are "buy it for life" type people. When we were shopping to replace our 30 year old toaster, we were disappointed by what we perceived as almost universally low quality products for sometimes-inordinate prices. Some of them were hideous while others were simply okay. We took a chance on it and we couldn't be happier. This toaster is fantastic, and not just "fantastic for the price". It toasts quickly and evenly. Button-feel is good (as far as toasters go, anyway) and the knob feel is reasonable. The appearance is handsome, and I appreciate the classic layout and modest footprint (I would have liked perfectly straight sides, but hey, you aren't supposed to nestle your toaster right against the wall anyhow so no major loss of space there). Much of the external parts are metal and do get warm, and even hot in some places. This is in contrast to plastic-bodied toasters, but in general there are few external surfaces you can touch that will cause pain after use, most of the surface remains warm at the hottest. Get this toaster; it's great, and not just "for the price". We feel confident that it will serve our needs for a good long while. If we end up being wrong... heck, it's one of the cheapest out there so it's a loss we feel we can eat (pun intended, why not!)

Really Great Toaster!
I'm loving this toaster! I wasn't sure at first, because the instruction booklet said you needed to run the toaster empty the first time, in order to burn off any residual dust from the factory. That made me nervous, but I did as instructed. There was a slight odor of burnt dust, which quickly went away. After that, I popped some bread in and had some of the best toast I've had in years! The dial is simple to set to the right "darkness" setting. The first time, I used a low setting, and when it popped up, I flipped the bread over and toasted it again. But I was used to my old toaster, which didn't heat evenly. This toaster does a beautiful job, so turning your bread halfway through isn't necessary! The very top of the bread doesn't get as dark as the lower half, but I don't mind that. (Just FYI, I use level 2-1/2 for warming Pop Tarts, and 3-1/2 or 4 for golden toast. Level 6 would probably burn my toast, but it goes all the way up to 8 or 9.) The exterior of the toaster is a dark gray and black, with silver accents. (I believe it also comes in a purple version.) It looks sleek and stylish, perfect for a kitchen that has stainless steel and black appliances. There are different settings, which you can use for bagels, or for defrosting stuff, or keeping something warm. The buttons are easy to push and there's no confusion about what setting it's on. There's a "cancel" button, so you can pop your toast up immediately, if you need to. I also really appreciate that the bottom of the toaster slides out, so you can clean the crumbs off. This reduces the chance of old crumbs catching fire, so it's a definite plus for me! Five stars and highly recommended for anyone who's in the market for a basic, easy-to-use toaster.

Perhaps Mine is Defective
Bought this toaster through Amazon last month and was pleased with what I got. It's pretty, it doesn't take up a lot of counter space, and it does what it's supposed to do: make toast. That was then. Now, I'm disappointed in this purchase. When looking for a new toaster, the first thing I specified to narrow down the search was a bagel setting. There's a neat button on the toaster for bagels and it lights up when you push it. That would be the extent of what changes. The bread I expected to come out toasted on only one side was thoroughly toasted on both. I assumed I'd screwed up so I tried again, making sure the button was pressed but again I got regular toast. I experimented several times without bread. In all cases, all toasting elements heated when the bagel button was pressed. I checked the manual to see if I'd done something wrong but I had followed the appropriate procedure: insert bread, push down lever, press Bagel button, wait. I now wonder if any of the other buttons on the toaster actually do anything aside from light up. As I said, I'm disappointed since the ability to toast only one side was a big deciding factor in my purchase. Perhaps mine is defective. If you want a pretty purple toaster, this is that. If you want the buttons on the machine to actually do anything then perhaps this isn't the model for you.

Neat toaster for small families!
Works very well. The slots for bread are nice and hold the bread slices I buy with no issues. However, some brand of bagels are a tight fit. The toasting levels are well segregated and deliver different amount of toasting consistently. There is a lever on the front to switch the toaster on once you have placed the bread inside. It always pops up the slices once done. There is no 'ring' or 'ding' once it is done. The power cable is not very long, about 1.5 feet probably. If you have power outlets on the counters then it should not be any problem at all. However, if your outlets are at a distance from the counters, then you would needs an extension cable. The only shortcoming I have found with this is that sides are not flat. This is important because I recently found a way to make a grilled cheese sandwich by laying the toaster on its side (so that melting cheese does not drip down inside the slot and stays on the bread slice). However, this method doesn't work well on this toaster since sides are not flat and the toaster is unstable (and at an incline). Also, the popping of the slices once done is not powerful enough to eject the grilled cheese slice once done. So the slice stays inside and gets burnt from the still hot toaster. I cannot really complain about this since this is a hack and the toaster is not supposed to be used like this. However, if you do plan to used your toaster like this, then just be aware of the challenges. Apart from this, really happy with the toaster and would recommend it without hesitation.

Long-lasting toaster
I am ordering my 2nd one because the last one just started acting up and we've had it for NINE years! It's not often I have had a toaster for that period of time without any problems. I love how small it is, the colors blend in with the stainless steel appliances (although I normally put it away) and it works so well with all types of bread/bagels. I've no complaints with this until it started heating my bread unevenly this week, but I'm not really complaining, that's a long time for any toaster to last IMO. The price is great for something that won't be replaced for another nine years or more.

Great toaster, great price
I wanted a toaster that provided even toasting and did not want to pay a huge amount of money. This toaster fit the bill, is small enough to fit in my appliance drawer - I am pleased with my purchase and recommend it.

I don't understand the bagel function...
I like it! It's hefty and uses good quality materials (which is expected from Oster). They styling looks nice and it does toast things. My only complaint is that the bagel function makes no sense to me. In every other toaster I've ever owned there is a diagram on top of the toaster which tells you which way to face the bagels so that only the inside gets toasted. On this... no diagram. Now I know what you're thinking, "AHA! Just press the bagel button and see which side turns on! Then you'll know! Gosh, I'm so much smarter than you!" Yes yes internet denizen, I thought of that too. Turns out both sides turn on when you press the bagel button. In fact, as far as I can tell there is absolutely no difference when using this feature. As I threw out the manual, now I can't even check. And really, if I have to read a manual to figure out a toaster then the toaster is too complicated.

I like this
I read so many reviews of so many different toasters on Amazon, I can't believe I had to spend so much time to pick a toaster, because even the highly rated ones have lots of negative reviews. I eventually settled on this one, because some but not too many negative reviews. It turned out to be pretty good, bread are toasted crispy (better than my old ones), and evenly. Maybe I am just not that picky about toaster.

Quality control could have been much better
Toaster is as expected, toasts well, like the wide slots for bagels and the extra lift function. I really like the colour. The reason I only gave it 3 stars is because when I tried to plug it in, the plug wouldn't go into any of my 3 electrical outlets. When I took a closer look, I noticed the metal on the wider prong was jagged. Instead of returning it, I used a Dremel tool to grind off the rough jagged edges and it now works fine. Shouldn't have to do this on a brand new appliance.
