Will this stand also hold objects secure enough to paint with a brush?

It should. I have done some painting with a brush and it seemed ok. I have done most of my painting using the stand with an air brush.

Can you say what is the diameter of the top and bottom platforms and the height of the pedestal?

Both stands at the bottom are 4 5/8 in diameter and the wider stand is 6 1/4, the body stand at the top is 3 1/4 by 2 inches, hope that helps great stands for any type of model, been using mine for a couple of tanks I've done

Would this stand be suitable for painting 1/18 scale diecast car bodies? These bodies are much heavier, wondering if the clips can hold it up.

This unit comes in two separate stands one of those stands is set-up for a car bodies, it's designed uphold the body with metal springs I think that it should hold, I assume this body is under a pound if it over in the wood model shipping industry there are hold devices that are designed for more weigh or even model trains having devices that are designed for more weigh. If that fails vices that are various sizes can be found at Harbor Freight or even on Amazon.
