Super easy to install, works great
I purchased these snow cables to replace my previous ladder-shaped snow cables, and it's hard to believe how much superior these new cables are to my old set. The installation process is much easier, and the split design of the cables means you do not need to move the car and readjusting the cables, which is a huge plus. The z-shape of the cross cables also provide much better grip compared to my previous ladder-shaped cables, which would tend to spin out when the tires were between the horizontal segments. SCC manufactures many different sizes of these cables, so I found that my new cables fit my tires/wheels than my old set, which were designed to fit a much broader range of tires/wheels. On the flip side, I guess it reduces the likelihood of using one set of cables across multiple cars, but don't really see that as an issue. The other possible down side is that since it uses a bungee-style tensioning loop, I'm guessing that is more likely to fail. You really need to price in a spare set of tensioning loops into the price of these cables. All in all, a great product at a good price.

Great Product
This product performed flawlessly. I bought them for Mom's Lincoln Town car which is the worst handling winter vehicle ever made IMO. Along with those touring tires,( really smooth ride, no tread whatsoever) makes this car almost impossible to drive in the winter. So 9 1/2 in of snow is expected, I order these cables. Having never used these I wasn't sure about them. So they arrived early and I get them on, which was super easy. I had them on both back tires,(only ordered one set for the drive wheels) in less than 3 min. I will say get a pair of heavy duty kitchen dishwashing gloves and keep them with the cables because you will get dirty removing them. I was amazed at how well this car drove with those on. It tells you these can also handle bare road at no more than 30 mph and that is true. I drove about 5 miles on pavement with no problem at all, and no damage to the cables. I would highly recommend these to anyone thinking about cables/chains as an option for winter driving.

Initial thoughts - so far so good
I bought two pair of the Super Z chains for an upcoming winter road trip in our AWD Rav4. I also (as recommended by some reviewers) bought a spare pack of the tensioners in case I have one break. Without the tensioner, the chain is un-usable so it's cheap insurance to have spares. Note: Exercise care in selecting the tensioner to go with your chains, it's not "one-size fits all". After you determine your tire size and select the appropriate chain size, look for a tensioner that fits that chain size. So in the comfort of my So Cal driveway, I tested the chains on both the front & rear wheels. First I searched "super z tire chains installation" on a video platform and found a demonstration video that was helpful. After watching the video a few times and carefully inspecting the connecting parts of the chain to correlate the connecting points with the video, I went out to the driveway to try it. Installing these is actually pretty easy. They're designed to go on without having to move the vehicle. After the test install which worked out fine, I'm going to make sure I add the following to my chain road kit: A pair of leather work gloves (the plastic ones that come with the chains are next to useless); An old bath towel to kneel on while working on the roadside; A flood light in case it's dark when I need to put them on; A long-sleeved work shirt. You can't help rubbing your forearms on the tires during installation. It'd be good to have something on you don't mind getting road dirt on. I'll come back & edit this review after the road trip if I end up using these in real-world conditions.

Check them if parked for a few days
I bought two sets of the low profile low clearance for a 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid 235/45 R18. Iโve used them on 5-6 occasions. It is very important to keep the smooth side metal and plastic clips against the tires. One occasion was a 47 mile one way round trip. Others shorter. Most memorable was driving south across 205 across Columbia river. Without chains the wind was blowing me sideways. I was able to get into a hotel lot at 10pm after 3 hours of backup. I put four on and had a beer then slept until 2:30 am. Driving through downtown Portland to Beaverton with cars lined up two wide on the highway. I drove it next couple of days. After having it sit for a few days it threw the tensioner on the driveway while reparking. Fortunately I always check things after half a block. So why the title. I once put one on with smooth side out. Two of four came off after two left turns. Read the instructions and then notes the stamping on all flat parts day this side towards tire; something like this. Just bought a third set for my daughterโs Lexus. As an engineer who has had jeeps with 4x diamond pattern chains these do well. Much easier and lighter. Also with care and drying they go back into box. General tip. Knock off the snow and ice in the wheel wells once you get to destination. Ice is less attached before a night freeze and I think the chunks were why it threw the tensioner.

Best purchase for my car ever!
Had anticipated the bad storms in Ohio, ordered these on a whim. 2 chains for my fwd 2004 jetta tdi. Fit the kit to my tire and rim size. Kept them in the boot, got stuck on a icy hill 315N Cbus ohio. Installed even in bad icy conditions in about 10 minutes. Little tricky but was easy enough, my first time using chains on my own car. Drove great through 2 inches of snow, 3/4" of ice, black ice, and great traction for a 1/5 slope. Even if they don't last me the winter, I wouldn't have made it to work without them - worth purchasing. I passed quite a few wrecks (18), and was able to get through territory others couldn't. Avoided deep snow which isint recommend, but I did make through a bank of 3" snow in reverse. Actually did great in that unplanned terrain. They seemed a little loose but tightened up with use. They also got thrown on one side after 40 miles. Held up to the abuse of not using correct traction on them and the wheel rubbing on them. If you have complaints on it'd fit, I'd make sure you read carefully your tire and rim size. I also found reviews helpful on similar rims to make my final selection. 10/10, would use again.

Easy to put on, but also come off more easily.
At first I was happy about this product because the chains were so much easier than ladder chains I had used in the past. Unfortunately, while I was using these chains the right wheel chain fell off in the middle of a snow storm. In fact, it fell off over and over, so I suspect the right one was defective. The last time it fell off I didn't notice, and lost it completely. I am fairly sure I had installed these correctly because I had used them before, and I the left one didn't fall off and I installed that one the same as the right. In that snowstorm, I was forced to buy another self-tensioning chain, and what I noticed about that one is the elastic tensioner was much tighter. I suspect that is why this product didn't work well, it has too weak of a tensioner. Of course, the week I lose them is the week the return window closes, so I am leaving feedback instead. If you are going to use these, bring spares (I now routinely carry two pairs of chains). I've

16 Years of Use.
Purchased Jan 31, 2010 $90 here on amazon. Use on Toyota Highlander. So for 16 years been using these when we get ice on our back road. We are last road to be cleared. Our driveway is 300 feet and up/down hill. Over years maybe used 20+ times. Safely get out to main road where less than 5 miniutes take them off and run cleared roads. Through them in car when visiting family in VA during winter. Feb 2026 Snow ice out back of Greensborough NC. Need to use to get to other home for leaking water pipe. Still work like the day I purchased them. They got a good work out on local roads and highway. Easy to put on and off.

Not the carefree confidence of my dreams.
I used these twice the same day. They may be better than the literal chains of years past, but on the whole, these were disappointing and I donโt have confidence theyโll get me safely home. Both times, the small ring that connects the far- or inner-side of the tire was difficult to slip over the connector. Crouching in the ice with gloves off to try and toggle that one connection took many tries and was exhausting. My bare fingers/knuckles were a bleeding mess after that. I was able to put the gloves back on for the rest of the connections. First use, I could hear flapping sound as I drove, but there wasnโt a safe place to stop and inspect on the highway and I had to drive several miles knowing there was a problem and hoping it wasnโt creating massive damage. When I got to a place where I could take them off, seems that fiddly little inner ring had disconnected on one tire, and the inner cable was slapping around with every tire revolution. The street to my house has an incline and hadnโt been cleared, so I managed to get the car stuck in about a foot of powder. Even after wrestling these cables back on, the car remained stuck. I kind neighbor stopped to help. Tires spun in the snow, sliding and failing to get traction, and the cables were flung or slipped off. Iโm guessing the connectors slipped again. So, yes, these got me (almost) home. But it wasnโt the carefree experience of my fantasies.

These were great
having never used snow chains before they were simple to put on and take off (after watching the 90 sec youtube video) and were extremely effective.

Work well, fast delivery!
Easy to install when needed. Could not get up a slushy hill in Vancouver BC and strapped these on and got home after New Years Eve dinner party. I have good snow tires but it wasn't enough. These provide very good traction in deeper snow and excellent traction in compacted snow. Speed limit with chains on is 50 KM's per hour. Good to have in your trunk when needed! I've put them on twice and can now install in 5 minutes. Pack gloves and use your car matts to kneel on when installing so you don't wet your knees. Also pack a flashlight!

not suitable for my car as clashes with car hardware on inside of wheel
The chain intrudes below the bottom of the tyre on the inside and would clash with car hardware. Therefore useless for my vehicle even though I got the appropriate size for my 245/45 R19 tyres. Pity as the design is good otherwise

Anyone can put these on!
These are the best and easiest chains to use. I have gone up hills that are covered with ice and made it! It takes a bit of practice ( before you actually need them ) to put on but once you know it's fairly easy. watch a few youtube videos and try at home on a nice sunny day. Saved the day heading to the ski hill with my kids when traffic stopped and I was spinning on ice. put these on and away we went. Every woman ( and man ) should know how to use.
