A wonderful inspirational book for anyone seeking enlightenment through the practice of Buddhism.
I have read numerous books in the past on the topics of Asian philosophy like Shintoism, Taoism, Zen and other forms of Buddhism. This fantastic book focuses on Nichiren Buddhism which was created by a Japanese monk named Nichiren. He was born in Japan in 1222 and developed a Buddhist philosophy system in which all people are able to achieve Buddhahood. Unlike many of the other Zen and Buddhism systems, this Nichiren Buddhism believes that achieving "enlightenment" is not restricted to monks but is available to everyone. The primary method is the chant a six syllable NAM-MYOHO-RENGE-KYO which comes from the Lotus Sutra. It is recommended you chant at least five minutes twice a day. This 230 page book is organized into eight chapters. They include the following: (1) The Buddha in your Mirror. (2) The practice. (3) Self- and environment. (4) Happiness. (5) Relationships that work.(6) Buddhism and health. (7) Dealing with death. (8) Putting it all into practice. There is also a bibliography and other suggested organizations and books for further study of Nichiren Buddhism. This book is an excellent volume to learn how to practice Nichiren Buddhism, but there is nothing like having a teacher explain exactly how to chant "Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo." There is also a lot of material on the wide world web about this system of Buddhism, including instructions on how to chant properly. There are numerous support groups in every state that practice Nichiren Buddhism. If you are interested in a Buddhist system which teaches you how to live a full and happy life, you might want to checkout the Nichiren method to enlightenment.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. I LOVE this book
I LOVE this book! Great introduction to Nichiren Buddhism. The title is actually pretty profound: it refers to how every individual has a Buddha nature: hence "The Buddha In YOUR Mirror." Easy to read and written by an American jazz musician who practices with the SGI-USA (a Buddhist lay organization that works for world peace). P.S. the term "lay" as in "Buddhist lay organization" means that it's an organization by and for the people - it's truly "practical Buddhism. Obviously I'm biased because I'm an SGI member and this book is pretty famous in our community. It's a great read if you're just interested and want to know more about the practice itself, a dip your toes in the water kind of read. ENJOY :-)

Will change your thinking on everything.
I’m not a religious person but I believe and feel I am spiritual. I know there are things bigger than me that I feel part of. This book changed how I see so many things. Buddhist practice is where my spirituality belongs. I am meditating and chanting mantras using mala beads daily and I am so much happier. We have to make the happiness, we have to change, not others. One big thing I’ve learned is that if I’m mad at something someone says or does, it isn’t them that needs to change for me, I have to change by not letting that make me so mad. If I react in an angry manner, they got what they wanted. There is just so much more to the book. It’s a great purchase, I don’t think anyone interested in this lifestyle or belief system could be disappointed.

Really worth reading even if you are not practicing Buddhism
This book is really amazing. I do practice the Buddhism with SGI described in this book, but also just wanted to say that even if someone didn't practice this Buddhism, that it is worth reading and that you would get new ways of thinking out of it. Some people call Buddhism a religion, but to many it is simply a practice and way of life that enables you to overcome obstacles and succeed in life. So, anyway, point is that it is worth reading, even if you aren't ultimately planning on practicing the Buddhism. You can still get new ways of thinking out of it.
