It is relatively easy to replace/upgrade the hard drive in your PS3 (any model). Don't waste your money on one of the "PS3 upgrade kits" - they are a SCAM. Make sure height of the actual unit is the standard 9.5mm!! For example, Western Digital 1 TB WD Blue SATA II 5200 RPM 8 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Notebook Hard Drive ("*750 GB and 1 TB models are 12.5 mm high") will ***NOT*** work because it will not physically fit inside the PS3.Step 2: Use the PS3 backup utility to backup everything to a FAT32-formatted external hard drive (not the replacement drive). Using the backup utility is best because it will save everything. If you don't have a large enough external HD, then you may selectively back-up your individual files. This would be a pain and some copyrighted files cannot be copied (e.g. Dragon Age savegames).
