What is a safety harness used for?

A safety harness is fall protection gear that secures workers at height, preventing serious injury. Essential for construction, roofing, tower climbing, and OSHA-compliant jobsite safety.

How long is a safety harness good for, and does it have an expiration date?

Safety harnesses don’t have a strict expiration date, but most last about 5 years with proper care. Always inspect before use—retire if damaged, worn, or fails inspection per OSHA and manufacturer guidelines.

What are the three types of safety harnesses?

• Fall Arrest - Designed to stop a fall and prevent impact. • Work Positioning - Allows hands-free work while securely suspended. • Suspension/Rescue - Supports full-body weight for rescue or rope work.

When must you wear a safety harness?

You must wear a safety harness when working at heights of 6 feet or more (per OSHA), or when fall hazards exist, such as on rooftops, scaffolding, ladders, or aerial lifts.

Can safety harnesses injure you?

Yes, a safety harness can cause injury if it's not worn correctly or if you're left hanging too long after a fall. To prevent this, ensure proper fit, use padding, inspect gear, and have a quick rescue plan in place.
