Practical Gemmology
Practical Gemology is a hardcover 335 page book dealing with high-tech treatments and synthetic diamonds as well as instrumentation, theory, testing, and gemstone properties. It was first published in Great Britain in 1955. This new expanded and revised edition by Ms. Dee Dee Cunningham is as relevant today as it was yesterday. The field of Gemology has gone through tremendous changes over the years. Ms. Cunningham has done an excellent job in updating and clarifying the sections on high-tech treatments, synthesis, and numerous other areas in this book. The chapters are written in a lesson format from one to nineteen. The contents of this book are in keeping with the current vernacular and thus very relevant when combining it with studies in gemology. The nineteen lessons covers extensively all the background information and theory necessary for understanding all key concepts central to gemology. Ms. Dee Dee Cunningham holds professional gemology and diamond diplomas from Great Britain and Canada. She is the recipient of multiple distinctions form the Diamond/Gemology industry. This current work will benefit students and professionals for many years to come.

I have found this book, at times, indigestible due to the author's weird grammar and syntax. Its very American and, at times, is more a stream of consciousness than a logical explanation of a concept. Her idea of arranging Webster's old book into lessons is excellent and should allow a student to skim it for the Certificate level. However, the more advanced student at FGA level will find themselves struggling as much with the writing as with the complexities of Gemmology.Sorry to say, I cannot recommend this book

Excellent book for learning theory. Do not expect colorful pictures, just true theory.
