Seventy LDS Hymns for Guitar: That Anyone Can Play

I love this book. It wound up being one of the best gifts I’ve ever received and has made my life better. My wife took guitar from Newell Kaimball in college. For our anniversary a few years ago, she bought me a guitar and this book. I’d never played before and have almost no background in music. I’ve still never taken lessons, but his system of diagrams tells you exactly what to do with each finger on both hands. At first, it was agonizingly slow. I was convinced my fat inflexible fingers would never get it. But eventually I could play most of these hymns and had learned enough chords to play all kinds of music. Now years later, I play these hymns to relax, in special meetings at church, and around campfires with family, friends, and sometimes (among other things) the scouts. This might not be the best way to teach yourself guitar. There are some minor typos that you will figure out as you go through. But it worked for me. And it’s arrangements live up to their billing as simple and beautiful, if not always easy. I love it. 5 stars.

Print entirely too small, almost unreadable. It's very hard to play the guitar and read the tiny print in this book at the same time. I've returned mine to Amazon. FYI - LDS.ORG has free guitar music for all LDS hymns.

I need more time

I think my son will be pleased with this purchase, its a gift for him and he had seen the book already. However, the cover said there was a DVD with it, and there is a slip for the DVD to fit in, but my copy did not come with a dvd. I had not been expecting one, but when the cover mentioned it, it seems like it should have had one? This was a new item, not used. Otherwise its a nice selection and a good price.

This book is great for a beginner (like me) or a more advanced guitar player (like my friend who suggested it) to learn from. It's much more enjoyable to learn the chords while playing something real.

I thought I was a better guitar player but some of these are pretty hard. Still they are good transcriptions. I just need to practice more.

Great book, easy reading, understandable, enjoy the chord changes, and the cd works well. Great for sing a longs or advanced picking.

I was hoping this would have some tab. it is only the chords above the music, just like most piano music has the chords above.
