2 years later, still works like a champ!
I don't often write reviews, but I felt it was needed for this little portable bass amp that I love so much! It has been 2 years since I bought this, and everything still works 100%. I rarely use the adaptor as the battery life with the 6aa batteries is awesome; I literally get 3-4 months of regular playing out of one set of batteries! I've played small acoustic gigs with this, practice wearing headphones, and jam along with my smartphone, and it has been great! Not to mention it is incredibly light weight and easy to carry using a guitar strap. I have played this cool little amp alot and it has held up perfectly with no problems. If you turn it up too loud, the speaker will distort, which is to be expected. But it is just loud enough to play nicely with an acoustic guitar and singer. My speaker still sounds great after 2 years. Be realistic about the sound; it's not going to rival my small 25w Fender Rumble, but it sounds good to me! Fingerstyle, picking, slap and pop all sound nice! If this somehow died tomorrow (which I highly doubt) I would 100% buy another one. This little amp has been one of the best music gear purchases Ive made in a long time. I also recently bought their pocket bass amp for use with headphones and it's also fantastic! I think Joyo makes awesome reliable gear at a great price! Just have realistic expectations for what you pay. I will gladly support Joyo and recommend their gear to others!!

babys first amp (positive)
this thing is so cool. im an absolute beginner at bass, so i dont really know what constitutes as a “good” amp. despite that, i love it. i live in a small apartment, and this is ideal for it. i imagine it can get pretty loud, but i keep it quiet when i play. also, the fact you can plug in headphones is so incredible, especially for apartment situations. honestly, on headphones it sounds so good. if you’re new to playing music and on a pretty strict budget, this is a fantastic option. also - the amp shell is more of a cream rather than a true white. i dont mind, in fact i think it looks better

Bass Amp is Big Bang for the Buck! I slap Like now ;-)
For the price is perfect for personal practice and for rehearsal in a pinch. Light as a feather, lots of features including tone control, gain, high gain switch, Aux input, headphone out, Output volume. The bass output is not massive, and actually more kinda mid-range with a low end roll-off starting around 80hz. Can't really expect anything more for the cone size, preamp, and 10W output. Im fairly satisfied with the sound after some adjustments on my bass and the amp. A compressor pedal helps the tone immensely. Amp has a tendency to distort at higher volumes (this thing gets surprisingly loud!) but it's more of a gritty sound than a bad sound. Just be prepared if you plan to use it on 11. Very cool 80s feel to it with the off-white color and JOYO logo lit up in bright white LED. Hidden strap handles unscrew from the sides! Sweet. Overall a nicely functional amp for practicing bass, easy to transport, cool looking and while it has a "low cost feel" to it, is actually a huge bang for the buck! Competes with practice amps 3x as expensive that have less features. I wouldn't use it for a non-micd gig or in the studio but it's perfect for warmup, shedding or the bedroom. Def recommend this little guy. It's a trooper!

Not bad… but not great
EDIT: I ended up returning it. It just has no volume, and I can only dial one decent tone out of it. Original review: Well this is a tricky one to review. In my more than 30 years of guitar playing experience, it’s only been in recent years that they’ve been able to make small, portable battery powered guitar amps that actually sound decent, and they still sound thin and have no low end. So you really can’t expect much out of a small portable bass amp. With that said, this amp has a surprising amount of low end for a plastic battery powered amp, but it is more of a mid-bass that gives a bit of a muddy tone. I’m simultaneously impressed that it exceeds my expectations and just a little disappointed with the overall tone. My only real disappointment was being misled by reviews on here to believe it is louder. I saw claims that it’ll keep up with 2 acoustics, and even two acoustics and a mandolin. It is not even close to that loud. The issue I have with it is with the volume maxed and the drive down it is barely audible. You have to leave the volume all the way up, and adjust volume with the drive knob for a clean tone, and at about 1/4 drive where the volume gets decent the tone starts to break up. By half drive the volume is about maxed, and you have an slightly overdriven tone that is not entirely different from my Ampeg with the drive and mix about halfway. Anymore and the amp starts to rattle and buzz. So you really can’t get a clean tone with any sort of volume. My bottom line is, if you’re in the market for a practice/first amp, then you’d probably be better off with even the most basic starter pack amp, but if you find yourself with a need for something more portable that doesn’t tie you to the wall, then this is a viable option. The only real competition would probably be the Blackstar Fly 3, which at nearly twice the price, has more gimmicks, 3 drum loops, a couple modulation effects, fluorescent color options, etc, but is only 3 watts with a 3 inch speaker. Without hearing it, I can’t imagine that would put out much bass. So I have to assume this amp is a better value. I’m not disappointed with my purchase. It is what it is.

Good deal!
Beginner bass player here. I got this amp to practice at home and I think it's great. The sound quality is really good, and I love that I can plug in headphones to not disturb the rest of the house when I get the random urge to practice at 3am. With the aux port, it also makes for a good speaker to plug a device and listen to music! Multi-use! Also, it's small and very light in weight, so it's very easy to travel with!

It's OK
For a bass amp, it doesn't quite have enough "oomph" - the low end is just not there. Also it is quiet, so ... if you are having an acoustic jam - more of a practice session - with some acoustic partners then it's okay though you may find yourself wanting more low end and more volume - which is simply not available. If my acoustic musical partners are tolerant of the "bass amp"' shortcomings, then I can overlook them too.... after all, for a quiet practice amp it is a decent deal - but don't expect any real bass tone because it isn't there. There is no way I would play a gig with this amp. It is VERY portable, which is a big plus, but it is not versatile and the sound quality is ok at best - but leaves a lot to be desired if you're trying to get that bass guitar sound dialed in like it should be. Also... if you're playing with electric guitars, drums, or louder instruments in general - forget it - you are going to be inaudible. The overdrive button? Forget it - "fuzz/metal" doesn't compensate for a weak sound and doesn't tonally blend in with acoustic instruments anyway. Is the amp worth the price? Yes, just barely. Like the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. I give it 4 stars anyway because I can use it... and I like it's portability .... but it probably deserves 3 stars just because the bass tone really isn't there - which means, as a bassist, I'm settling for less.

Perfect (really) for home practice on the cheap - to be clear, not for gigging
So if you're looking at this product the chances are you're wanting to be able to have a little amp to practice bass at home, and ideally you wouldn't spend a fortune. So I'll get to the point: 1. Does it sound good? Yes - actually the tone is great, I do not use the drive channel as that's not my thing personally. However the clean channel really sounds like my bass :) 2. How loud is it? Loud enough to not be able to hear your bass acoustically BUT (and this is a good thing) you need to be close to the amp and it needs to be facing you really. This means you can play at what seems like a decent volume, without annoying anyone ele (mostly) I crank the volume to full, then add gain about half way - all good. 3. Does it run ok on batteries? Yes - in fact that is the only way I'm using it. I have good quality (2300ma) re-chargeable batteries and it works and sounds great. 4. Is it worth it? Yes with a but. It really depends on what your need is. If this is to be your amp and you hope to gig in pubs etc, then this is NOT the product for you. However, if you are looking for something JUST to use around the house, get a decent tone and not make everyone around you crazy, then YES - this is perfect. It's crazy that we've gotten to a point with technology that something so small and cheap can perform so well. 5 stars from me (for the very specific use case of just around the house)
