Farewell, Gotrek
This is the penultimate Gotrek & Felix story. There are a lot of loose ends to be tied up here: will Felix ever see his wife and child again? What will happen to Max? Will Gotrek meet his doom? Can the heroes hope to stop the tide of chaos?Guymer does a fine job with the action scenes, and one featuring a bridge and a gyrocopter is particularly well done. The twists are carefully plotted, the foreshadowing is sufficiently shadowy, and the villains adequately evil. Best of all, the banter between Gotrek and Felix is well done. These people actually feel like friends, and that relationship elevates this yarn to a cut above the average Warhammer tales. Of the āEnd Timesā series, this and its predecessor, Kinslayer, are easily the best. The weakness of this book is the restraints imposed by the āEnd Timesā storyline. in an effort to make things seem suitably EPIC, our heroes must contend with armies of beastmen, trolls and daemons. What should be supernatural and unique has become entirely natural and mundane. Itās likeāho humāANOTHER Bloodthirster of Khorne. Itās a good thing this series is over; poor Gotrek and Felix have run out of things to fight. Alsoāand again this has to do with End Times story arcāyou get the feeling that nothing that Gotrek and Felix will do will actually change the ultimate outcome of events. Itās a āRaiders of the Lost Arkā dilemma; if Indiana Jones had done NOTHING the outcome would have been the sameāthe Nazis would have destroyed themselves. Similarly, we know even if Gotrek and Felix are victorious and stop the evil daemon Belakor from fulfilling his evil plans, the Old World is doomed anyway. This undermines the suspense quite a bit. Although not Mr. Guymer's fault, it still weakens the narrative.Nevertheless, this is a solid fantasy novel. If you are a rabid Gotrek fan, add one star to this review. If you are not, subtract one and begin with āTrollslayer.ā

Bittersweet goodbye to the best pair of Heroes the Old World had to offer
Bittersweet is the best way to describe it. I have been reading the series for so long its like saying goodbye to trusted friends you grew old with. Not to give away the plot, but the doom sought is upon our heroes. I thought though that the final pages and ending were a bit off, since I don't think that Gortek would have allowed Felix to complete the saga in the manner he did - not after even the gods were challenged on behalf of their friendship. It had to end, but maybe just maybe we will get more in some form or fashion if the old world continues. Great book, but I really wish it had not ended when it did. A half a dozen more books in the series would have kept me happy.

Glad it's over
Better than Kinslayer, but still has isn't that good. Some of the writing is hard to follow and I find myself having to reread certain parts to get clarity. A major part of the story just wasn't logical and it was a major stretch to come to the conclusion the author arrived at. Lastly, the ending was just wrong. Gotrek is a Slayer, and if this is his last book, is it too much to expect him to achieve the ultimate goal of a Slayer?

Worse than what it could have been but better than what I feared
A return to form for the series, and perhaps not quite the conclusion to the cycle that it deserved, but better than what I feared, having read the previous book. And yes, Guymer still is no match for William King who invented the characters and wrote the first novels. But this book rates at least a solid "B" for effort and for faithfulness to the canon.

I think this was the best ending of all the End times book
I think this was the best ending of all the End times book. And the issue with this book is not the book itself. Its the AWFUL ending and creation of the new warhammer version. Loved Gotrex and Felix, and this book is a must read for everyone who read the previous books.

A must read for Warhammer fans
Really good read, part of the End Times event. I had to remove one star because I think the writer assumes that this book is being read together with all the other End Times books and so leaves a number of plot and character threads open.

I'd say a fitting end to a great series, plus the door was left open to ...
The author has hit his stride after a lackluster debut a few books back.I suspected way back in the first several books that this was where Gotrek was heading. I'd say a fitting end to a great series, plus the door was left open to expand the story in another direction.

An appalling finale to a brilliant series
Having been an avid reader of the William King and Nathan Long eras, this is truly a travesty of a send off for one of the best fantasy partnerships of all time. The plot is dreary, Guymer's writing style doesn't flow and is shocking compared to his predecessors. Ultimately it''s difficult to keep turning the pages to see what happens to two characters who seem to have been robbed of their personalities along the way.

EXCELLENT
I have read all of the Gotrek and Felix books, a wonderful, thrilling saga and this latest novel tops them all. If this is not the end of the two heroes adventures bring on the new ones.FANTASTIC.

A great read.
Really enjoyed this. Guymer has done a good job tying everything together and ending one of my favourite ever sagas.

Great characters given to a terrible writer
Loved Bill king and Nathan long gotrek and Felix novels. Wanted to finish out the serious but really found the last few books hard going. Guymer skips from dream sequence to vision about 20 times in this book. A device much overused in his previous books as well.

At last a fitting end to an epic saga. A shame too see them go. Like to konw if felix lives though šššš
