Magical
And not just the Sand People though they were quite wonderful.I felt the hot sun of the Sahara beating down on me as I read this incredible adventure. JR Rain has a great gift to his/her storytelling. I enjoyed how fate planned out this dishonored. Dentists life to get him on the right track. So many times the good guy finishes last in the real world, in the world of JR Rain fate & animal magnetism come together with a little magic thrown in to blend it all together into the most wonderful story of adventure with War Baby being the cherry on top🐺

All The Way Back Home
Good stand-alone book from one of my favorite writers. I loved the rapport between Shaye (a down and out alcoholic former dentist) and War Daddy (a stolen dog who had been injured and abused as a "mule" for drug smuggling). As Shaye patches up the dog as best he can, tags on the collar Indicates his name in Arabaic (translates to War Daddy) and a phone number to an organization for service dogs. This leads Shaye on the adventure of a lifetime to bring War Daddy home to his proper owner. Shaye gets more than he bargained for.

all the way back home
I’m kinda of a sucker for a good dog story, but this was that plus, a thrill a minute, surprises up the wazooo, you think of home as most of us do, but you never believe how this turns out, suspense, bad guys, heart reaching episodes, this was too good, oh did I mention, maybe a little romance, we’ll don’t get your hopes up, lol enjoy, loved it!Dave

Epiphanies, Cultural Differences
This is an amazing book of epiphanies, cultural differences, and loyalties. Shaye is a disgraced dentist, a man without love and little left to live for. He feels nothing; that is, until he nearly runs over a dog. His natural caring saves this animal used for a horrible purpose. When the dog, War Daddy, is traced to his origins, Shaye sets out on an epic (I know, I usually hate using that overused word; but this time, it’s true) journey of trust to get War Daddy back home to someone who needs him more than himself. Along the way, Shaye finds out more about himself than most people do in a lifetime. There are treacheries, dishonesties, and dangers. There is also loyalty, courage, and love. I enjoyed this book for the adventure, cultures, and some surprises. This is the first time I have read this author, J. R. Rain. I found the mystical aspect in this book to be unusual, surprising in relation to the rest of it, but enjoyable. The particular breed of dog, though, is for real and their instincts amazing.

all the way back home
What a delightful story. I enjoyed the bonding of dog and man, and the way they helped each other. This is a story you want to read till the final page. I’m glad I purchased it.

Far Fetched but Great Read!
This book held my attention from page one. It was non-stop action and adventure. Sure, I had to overlook the complete implausibility of it all, but it was a fun read so I didn't mind. There are some pretty graphic, violent events in the book, so maybe not for really young readers, but other than that, suitable for anyone.Dr. Shaye is at a bad spot in his life; a drinking problem, failed marriage, failed dental practice. Late one night, while driving under the influence, he comes upon an injured dog. He does his best to save the dog and continues to care for the dog through his recovery. It becomes apparent that the dog was/is a service dog, and through some investigation, Dr. Shaye discovers the dog hails from Eastern Sahara. Dr. Shaye decides to return the dog to it's rightful owner/companion.This is where things get a little far fetched. I recently read "Finding Gobi: The True Story of a Little Dog and an Incredible Journey" by Dion Leonard, so I have a light understanding of how difficult it would be to transport an animal internationally. But Dr. Shaye managed to snag a MAC flight, spur of the moment. He has this ability due to his Naval Reservist status. The book didn't specify if he was a retired Reservist or active or veteran. To my understanding, Naval Reservist Retirees can use MAC flights, but can not travel internationally. All I know is, back in the day my husband, (active duty Army at the time), wanted to take a MAC flight, and he would have had to be put on a wait list, and might or might not have gotten on the flight (we bought a ticket and he ended up flying commercial). As for the dog using a MAC flight, registered service animals can travel on MAC flights, but Dr. Shaye wouldn't have had any documentation. Just overlook that detail and enjoy the adventure...it's a great story. You will find other fictionizations, such as the country of "East Sahara", which doesn't exist, but the author acknowledges that in the author's note at the end of the book. It's fiction and written as such. The dog doesn't talk and isn't humanized...it's not that kind of fiction. It's more like "Indiana Jones" kind of fiction. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend.

A journey
This was a good book but I couldn't enjoy it like I would have if the author didn't cuss throughout the book. Because of all the cussing I won't be reading any more of his books. He could of wrote this book without the cussing. Good story and probably is a good author. Its a shame he chose to cuss in his books.

Good entertainment with an underlying life message. Great dog story!
If you are a true dog lover, you believe, like me, that they understand far beyond that to which they are given credit. And again--if you are a dog lover--you simply must read ALL THE WAY BACK HOME by J.R. Rain. Formerly a respected dentist and (he thought) a happily married man, Dr. Shaye Fox is no longer living the dream. That is until the rainy night he thinks he hit one enormous white dog in the road. From that moment on Shaye's life will never be the same. He ultimately embarks upon a never-fathomed adventure to return War Dog to his rightful owner, even though Shaye himself now treasures him as his own. The story has strong characters and a plot that is full of action and unusual hazards, and even a Wonder Woman type gal. Yes, some of it is unbelievable, but so is Indiana Jones! Just read it and have fun! I sure did. It is good entertainment with an underlying life message.

Adventure at it's best
This novel has everything for a great read. I couldn't put it down. J.R. Rain has a great imagination, yet you want to believe that everything is so real. Fantastic.....

A great read
A good read and so different to anything else I’ve read and very well written.Shaye is in the depths of despair when luck, fate or whatever you want to call it, begins an adventure after rescuing a dog.The dog takes him on a journey through the Sahara, he defeats drug lords, becomes a nomad and finds true love eventually returning the dog to its rightful owner. His deep bond with the dog never disappears but through various adventures, he ‘finds’ himself again. There are elements of mystery and fantasy which I found delightful not being my usual genre of reading material.I enjoyed this book very much.

Recommend Read!
Absolutely loved this book! Read it on holiday, was hard to put down. It brought to the fore, how man's relationship with dogs can be so rewarding on both a companionship and emotionally healing level. The story was so touching, there were tears of both happiness and sadness at the end!
