Really Nice Guitar
So this is one of the original body styles from the 80's that Rick Ocasek from the Cars played as well as many others. I wasn't a big fan of the lespaul/explorer shape combination at first , but it grew on me. I also have many black guitars, so I didn't want to get yet another black guitar. I kept looking for a copy of a Cadillac Dean with a color combination I would love and this turns out to be it. Although it is not USA made it has the features of a USA made Dean, one feature that it doesn't have is the Bone nut, but is easy to replace and I feel worth the time. The craftsmanship on this guitar is impeccable, the attention to detail magnificent, I even think they did some fret work which is borderline probable for a guitar of this price, any lower price and you don't usually get the labor included to do good fret work. I lowered my action just slightly and have zero string buzz. The maple top figure is close to the best I've seen , and without opening it up to look into the control cavity, I can only imagine its at least a 1/4" thick as they have the forearm relief cut and I don't think its bent laminate. When I add copper foil tape to the control cavity I will investigate. It comes with Seymore Duncan pickups, my favorite brand, and a really nice hard tail bridge and stop piece combo. The "V" headstock is big bold and beautiful and the tuners are Grovers. The knobs look like a higher end quality as the USA made and the Back of the neck has a smooth satin finish. The Binding is multi ply and very well done. I plugged it in , tuned it up and played it and it balanced very nicely on my leg, I think due to the large headstock and machine heads. The Pickups sound great, and everything checks out as it should. Again, the only thing I think I would alter on this guitar is adding copper foil in the control cavity and a bone nut, shy of that, this guitar to me meets the high standards of any USA made Dean out there, the real difference being a slightly longer scale length than that of the USA made models, For the price, your just not going to find a better guitar in my opinion. And BTW, I now love the body shape.
