As an intermediate German speaker I used this book to reacquaint myself with reading in German. These exercises gave me exactly what I wanted.

Very very nice for those independent learners, just last year I started to learn german by my own , and now i wanted to test myself with this book, surprisingly i was able to understand the vocabularies ( let’s say 60% of it) it was really shocked to me that i made a progress without even noticing it ! I feel motivated now !

Good reading exercises, Internesting stories. A vocabulary section would be very helpful. I think reading a variety of materials, such as newspaper articles, is very desirable.

Largely self-taught, I read German reasonably well, but speak it badly due to too little practice putting simple sentences together. With this book, I can read a short, pseudo newspaper article and then answer a lot of simple quuestions about the article in short sentences. Answers are provided at the end of each article, each answer being attached to a repeat of the question - no shuffling back and forth between pages to find the right answer.Unlike some books dealing with Intermediate levels of the language, this one strikes me as hitting that level more or less 'on the nose'.Why, then, only 4 stars? Because: In such a wide subject area, it cannot be perfect; just really very close.

I use this book with my language partner. We go through the questions but also have conversations around the topics, pronunciation of words and grammar points. It was definitely worth it for me. It is also useful to have a few similar questions, posed differently, that forces you to reuse vocabulary but in a restructured sentence which further test your comprehension and grammar.

I enjoyed reading the stories . Although they were easy for me I found them interesting and finding them easy gave me a confidence boost. As a German learner I think that reading news stories is a useful tool for leaning new vocabulary ot reinforcing known vocabulary.

I have only just started and am up to chapter 3. So far so good, but it is important to thoroughly understand the chapter and questions before you can answer the questions properly. I think you have to translate and write them down, otherwise the benefits will not be fully realised?
