REVIEWS โAbsolutely amazing book! Author gives you all the details & instruction you need in order to provide the best care for your new French Bulldog. Best choice,โ LEONARDO BEDOYA, USA "My puppy's breeder recommended this book & she was right. As a first-time Frenchie owner, there is a lot of information...particularly helpful was the advice about not allowing your dog to overheat. Little Claude is very playful & can get over-excited & pant. This can actually be dangerous for Frenchies & I wouldn't have known that before. It also gave me comfort around training because I now know Frenchies can take longer to train than other breeds & it's not me doing anything wrong. This book made sure I can take the best care of Claude. Thank you!" RUTHLESS, UK "Best Handbook. I did a lot of research determining which book on the market was the best all around that covers the following topics: Is a Frenchie for me, Frenchie personality, how to care for & train Frenchies. This book checked all the boxes I needed. Five stars," INFORMED CUSTOMER, USA. โA consistently authoritative voice on bringing up your dog. ... bought this as a gift for a friend - great book, full of substance and good advice
I bought this as a gift for a friend - great book, full of substance and good advice. Unfortunately, everything is black and white inside, including the pictures. The pages aren't laminated either. If aesthetic doesn't bother you, everything else is fine.

Daughter really liked this book compared to others
Been a GREAT book. Daughters preparing for a frenchie in the fall. Bought this for her at Christmas. Seems like it came right off the typewriter and I apologized to her for that but she said nooooo, it's all good, has good information.shed looked at several but like how this one wrote it.

Take what you need and leave the rest
This book contains good tips for training and a very detailed history of the breed. There were a couple of points that made me a little hesitant to trust her advice though. First of all, she states over and over again that a Frenchie should not be left alone for more than a few hours a day because they are companion animals so someone with a full time job shouldnโt own a Frenchie (she explicitly says that if you work all day, your dog will be unhappy with the separation). This is just untrue. Iโve had two frenchies in the past 12 years, while of course, they would love for you to stay home all day to be available for play and to sleep on, but they adjust just fine to a consistent routine. I would even argue that they can thrive and be extremely happy while you are at work. I do have a camera so I can check in or talk to my dog and he is either sleeping or playing happily! Secondly, the raw food promotion as the best possible food for your dog was a little off putting. Raw food is at best controversial and at worst harmful to your puppy. It is sort of the dog equivalent of the Paleo diet without any research supporting its effectiveness. There are zero scientific studies that prove any kind of health benefit, only anecdotal evidence, and there are several studies that show evidence of harmful bacteria such as E. coli and Salmonella present in the food. It is also very easy to mess up the nutrients and cause health problems instead of preventing them. That is why I was disappointed with the hard sell on raw which is great in theory, but until there are actual scientific studies proving the benefits outweigh the risks, it would seem irresponsible to enthusiastically recommend the diet in your book. If youโre going raw, please do the research and consult your vet! As with most advice, I guess you just have to take what you need and leave the rest.

A consistently authoritative voice on bringing up your dog!
Linda Whitwam is emerging as the main authority to go to when buying a dog. She certainly knows her stuff and the information is set out in easy to digest paragraphs accompanied by fabulous photos. We purchased her book on schnauzers a few years ago when trying to decide which breed to go for and then, when a friend had bought a new puppy, I was delighted to find Linda had written a brand new and up to date book on choosing a puppy and bought the paper back version as a present. I bought the French Bulldog Handbook knowing that I would be getting totally relevant and up to date information on this breed and wasn't disappointed. Advice and information in Linda's book on French bulldogs is down to earth and very readable and all you need to know is there. It is the same sort of book you're delighted to receive when you've just had a baby yourself - you keep going back to it to "see what Linda says" !!! I can't recommend this book highly enough!
