The part you put the batteries in had 4 screws to be undone to take off panel to insert batteries. Why didn't they just make it flip off and on, like most small devices do.

I checked this scale against 3 different sets of calibration weights and found it to be quite accurate; it appears to be accurate to less than 0.1 grams, which is all that I need. I very much like the water-resistance feature as I use this to weigh small soil samples (typically 10 -25 grams) in the field (for environmental testing), and the ability to rinse the scale to clean it is useful because sometimes the soil samples are contaminated. If you are going to open the battery compartment, use a high-quality, appropriately sized screwdriver (like from a jeweler's tool set), because it is easy to strip those screws. I would not use the screwdriver that comes with the scale. I would recommend this scale for field use for low weight items.

Great little scale. Buyer beware: The little screws that hold the cover on the battery compartment are too soft! The first attempt to open the compartment was challenging. One of the screws was very tight and the supplied screw driver partly stripped the phillips slot. I found that I needed to place the unit on a flat, nonslip, surface and use two hands...one to hold the driver tightly at just the right angle, and the other to back the screw out. I have installed the batteries and got the lid reattached. I may not be able to remove the cover again, though. Thinking I may need assistance from a jeweler or optometrist in removing them, the next time batteries need replacement. Perhaps stainless steel would be a better choice for assembling this otherwise durable " marine" product?This is not the first product I purchased on Amazon that is good quality; except for the battery cover fasteners. Features are nice to have; usability is also important.

This scale is solidly built, very lightweight and throughout my experiences thus far, has been very accurate in its weight measurement.That being said, there are a few things that need to be done in order to ensure accuracy.First comes the cumbersome effort of installing the included batteries. I hoped that accessing the battery compartment was simpler. You realize a small screwdriver is included as it's needed to unscrew four tiny screws that need to be replaced again after the two AAA batteries are placed inside.Next, you will have to calibrate the scale before its initial use properly. The included instructions do a pretty good job of explaining how to do it.After all that is completed, enjoy the ability to weigh small items in a number of different units. Be aware that this scale maxes out at a 3.527 oz capacity.

The Truweigh Marine Waterproof Scale isn't waterproof. It's more water resistant. And only a small amount of water. Like, say, a damp paper towel. That's putsuant to the instructions. After about a week of use, I noticed the plastic coating that must make up the waterproof part had holes developing over the keys that I frequently use like off/on and tare. I'm sure that will diminish the waterproof capability substantially. So, for now I treat it like a normal, non-waterproof scale. Didn't need to spend the extra money for a title.
