Works well!
Each year I spread over 30 yards of mulch and it is just too much work, not to mention expensive. I read the reviews for mulch dye and the Enviro Color dye had the best reviews so I thought I'd give it a try. Several reviews mentioned problems with clogged sprayers so I invested in a good quality battery powered sprayer (which I love!!) and used the fan shaped spray nozzle. I had no problems with clogging. I used about 1/3 of the bottle for 4 gallons of water which left me with a nice deep, even color. Any less than that and it will be too light and diluted. Spray each area twice, slowly once and back, and it should come out pretty even. Touch ups are easy. I tried it on a smaller bed first and we had an unexpected heavy rain storm that night - the color held up well and didn't run, though I did touch it up a little because I didn't use enough dye the first time. By the time I got to the next bed, I had my spray rate down and had figured out that you really need to use a lot more of the dye than they tell you to. So buy extra. One draw back is that only the top of the mulch is dyed so if you or your dog walk in the bed and mess up the mulch, you will have lighter spots. That wasn't a big deal for me, I have a number of very large beds and even with doing the occasional touch ups, it is SO much easier than spreading new mulch. As for cleaning up, its pretty easy. Just be sure to do it on the grass away from anything you care about, take a hose and fill the sprayer and then just spray out the water to clean out your wand and rinse out the sprayer a few times. I did have some over spray on my concrete drive way but a little bleach and it came out. Wear old shoes, gloves and old clothes. Overall, I am very pleased with this product.

Works great
I was tired of replacing my mulch bed every year since the quality of the mulch was still good but the color was gone. I figured I would try this product. I put it in a small one gallon sprayer and it worked great. Mulch looks like new. It has been down for a few months now and still looks good. If it starts to fade I will just touch it up again. It is a small bottle but it goes a very long way as you only need a few ounces per gallon. I would definitely recommend this product.

Works as Advertised
Everyone complains about how fast mulch fades after itโs applied. So I stumbled upon this product and thought Iโd give it a try. I bought a new gallon sprayer because I figured itโd probably mess up the one I use for gardening products. So hereโs what I experienced. I removed the filter screen at the end of the hose that draws the fluid from inside the sprayer. In the sprayer tank I mixed 4oz of cocoa brown into 1gal of water. I wore latex gloves. First thing I noticed was how highly concentrated the dye is. Itโs essentially oderless but it is dark and syrupy. You do not want this stuff splashing or getting on clothes, shoes, garage floor, etc. So be careful. First, I sprayed a bed that is bordered by grass so I could get the hang of this before spraying near the foundation or driveway. It worked just like in the description. Watching the transformation from dry, gray, craggily ugliness back to dark, rich brown was fun and kind of amazing. When you stand back and look at your mulch it looks exactly like you re-mulched your beds. Sweet! Now for the caveat. Despite that the dye is water soluble it will stain. Wear gloves, old shoes and clothes you donโt care about. Keep it off all concrete and garden decorations such as rocks, bird baths, gnomes, or anything else you donโt want it to contact. Mix it in an area where if it drips you wonโt care. The instructions indicate rinsing overspray with plain water. This helps a lot but will not remove it entirely. Better to use a sheet of cardboard as edging while you spray. If you can get a helper to hold and move the cardboard as you spray youโll finish much faster. Lastly, fill your regular garden sprayer with plain water (or have your garden hose nearby) and use it to quickly rinse off any overspray you might inadvertently cause. This mulch dye is great but no matter how careful you are it is messy. We put down enough to cover 8 yards of mulch and felt using this dye was definitly worth the effort. But you have to approach it like youโre โspray paintingโ and be mindful of overspray.

Game changer for your yard landscaping
This product has saved me many back breaking hours of remulching my flower beds! Going to the hardware store, hauling 7-10 bags of mulch home and spending a whole day remulching is exhausting! After a few heavy rains and couple months of hot sunny days, the mulch always fades and never looks fresh anymore. This mulch dye has totally changed the game and is so easy to apply with a sprayer. Makes my flower beds look fresh again and again! This is my second bottle as I finished the first one last year! I have told all my friends and family about it!

and it looks great right now
Just finished using this, and thinking about the review as I went along. I'm giving it 5 stars, because it worked as advertised, but I have a few caveats. First, as mentioned, I just finished using it, and it looks great right now, but if it fades immediately, I would downgrade this. As an aside, the container was smaller than I thought. It's one quart, not a gallon (and says that if you pay attention), but it covered what I needed covered. Obviously this does not replace mulch, which has many benefits, like weed control, water retention, soil cultivation. Also, you are just spraying the top side, so if you have lots of kids or animals or other things that are turning over the mulch, it will look faded quickly. I put on mulch about every other year. I order 5 yards, which seems to be enough to make about 100 wheelbarrow trips on a hot Saturday, and is a generally unpleasant job. Since I just did this last year, and have more than enough mulch down right now, but just wanted it to look better, I thought I would give this a shot. I took a rake and fist turned over the mulch for a bit, and pulled any big weeds. I hosed down areas that I didn't want to get colored, like walls, sidewalks, and plants. I used a new pump sprayer - spring for a new one and then just dedicate it to this job. You are going to be pumping gallons of dye through this thing, and it's never going to be the same, so just use it for this task. They're cheap. As a general note, you are essentially getting 32 ounces worth of dye, and should take obvious precautions, like wearing clothes that can get stains, and gloves, and keep the hose handy for any drips that you want to quickly spray. I only got one big drip on the concrete, but the hose quickly removed it. I went over everything twice, since it will absorb, and like any painting job (which this essentially is) the first coat never looks great. Good marketing that they have 'enviro' in the name, BTW, since it will feel anything but positive for the enviro as you stand in the middle of your yard and paint your mulch, but at least you can tell any noisy neighbors how the product has 'enviro' in the name. So, my mulch looks great now- it has that sharp black and green contrast between the mulch and the plants again. I also have some left over, which will come in handy to use a few days before we have a party or something. If you don't have a day and hundreds of dollars to dedicate to freshening up the mulch beds this year, but you do have an hour or so after work and $25 bucks, this is a good way to go.

Works great but very optimistic coverage rating.
It definitely colors old mulch or leaves or even dirt. I actually like the product as it solves a problem for me of not having to add mulch on top of mulch to where there would be too much mulch! Instead I just spray the old mulch and done. The Cocoa Brown is a very dark brown, exactly what I was looking for as it is somewhat of a match for actual dark brown mulch. If I like the product then why only 3 stars? Because there is no way this bottle is going to cover 2400 sq ft. That is an area 24' wide and 100' deep. I used about 12 oz to cover less than 400 sq ft, that works out to about 1000 sq ft for the bottle. That makes this mulch colorant relatively expensive, I can buy 10 bags of actual mulch for the same price. Here are some recommendations BEFORE you start using the product. Get a 4 oz measuring cup that you will never use for anything else. Shake the bottle thoroughly. Mix into a tank type sprayer somewhere in the middle of nowhere. This stuff will STAIN anything. Wear rubber gloves and be no where near anything that could be stained. Wear old clothes. As for the tank sprayer, a 1 or 2 gallon sprayer would be fine but get one that sprays a big wide path and that sprays a lot at a time. I bought an inexpensive Chapin tank sprayer and it is not doing the job. It doesn't spray wide enough and not enough volume as spraying is taking a lot longer than it should. I am going to have to try another tank sprayer as I will be spraying at least 2 bottles of this mulch colorant.

Excellent Product
I have over 1600 Sq Foot of Mulch in the yard. I like to have that dark rich new mulch color, so I replace it each year,,costing me hundreds of dollars. Mid Summer my new batch of mulch had already faded so I thought I would look for a less expensive maintenance option. I came across the Enviro Color product on Amazon. The reviews sounded positive, so I thought I would give it a shot. I purchased one container of the 2400 Sq. Ft. Black Forest Mulch Color. I checked the rain schedule as instructed...looked clear, so I applied the mulch color to my entire 1600 Square Foot Mulch beds. I used a $15.00 2 Gal. sprayer from Lowes which worked great, it has the wide spray nozzle and the Enviro covered beautifully. I had to rinse the nozzle once, as it will clog a bit, but the color went on easily and evenly. (Just be cautious of over-spraying concrete walkways.) I did use a two direction spray technique just to make sure it covered evenly. Took me about 2 hours and $25.00 worth of color to get Dark, Brand New looking Mulch....Wow looks great!!! It looks even better than my neighbor who laid his Mulch 5 days prior as you can see in one of the photos. Oh by the way, it rained 4 Hours later. I was worried my efforts were wasted...but even after the hard rain the Mulch color was unchanged from the time I sprayed it. Great product I will use again and continue to save hundreds of dollars and back breaking mulch replacement.

Red Mulch Color - Bright and Easy to Use
Really liking this mulch color so far! PROS: - It's vibrant. It's brighter and seems to stay red longer than actual red mulch you buy at the store (which faded faster under the direct sunlight and rain). - So far, it's held up well through rain. No color running that I've noticed (with that being said, make sure you plan a day where there will be no rain for at LEAST 24 hours. 48 is even better). - I had no trouble mixing this and spraying it (with a standard sprayer that you would usually use for pesticides or weed killer - with that being said, because it's a 'paint', despite being mixed with water, you'll still need to clean the sprayer well, or it clogs.) - Please see the attached pic, my yard had grayed out mulch (that used to be 'cedar' colored.) I've had quite a few neighbors already tell me how much better it looks. My yard is still under construction, but this seriously made it pop and look beautiful! (You'll also notice that I got a little lazy and sprayed over some leaves as well, while doing the yard, hah). CONS: - Very messy clean up. You'll need to have a dirt area (NOT concrete - it stains fast) where you can rinse out the sprayer. Red colored solution will run for awhile before turning clear. Wear clothes that can get messy. It will stain. - You'll want to make a couple passes over mulch (at least). If anyone steps on the mulch and lifts wood pieces, the old faded color is instantly noticeable against the red. I highly recommend spraying a coat, waiting a few days, then spraying a second. This helps coat more angles of each 'wood chunk' of mulch. Overall, I'm very happy with the results! My front yard has a LOT of mulch - both sides of the sidewalk have mulch instead of grass too. And so far I've only needed 2 bottles of this product (1 which is still nearly full). THis is going over with 2 coats too. It goes a long way. PICTURE 1: Front yard with 2 coats. PICTURE 2: before and after color, to give you an idea of what I started working with. There is only a fast, once-over of red mulch spray. The end result looks much better after 2 full coats were done.

Looks good but difficult to apply
Looks nice when applied but awkward to apply. Die stains anything . Advised to wet area not being covered by spray , liquid is somewhat thick so it causes issues with sprayer clogging , dripping from tip . Always have to be aware of where tip is .
