can you change the background color and can you wire it to dim with the headlights turned on?

Unfortunately all that can be done is to contrast and brightness. No color change and no dimming.

How easy is it to connect bluetooth to this unit? We have a bus company and need to connect new customers cellphones to play music everyday

We asked the Manufacturer and they replied: "We would not say that JHD1635BT is easy to Bluetooth pair to, but it is not hard either. If you need assistance, you can call the Manufacturer's Customer Service Center at 800-688-3135"
