Amazing Read!!!!! Great for newcomers
Thank you Michael for writing, "C(I)SO - And Now What ?" as your material really nails down what it means to be a CISO in this day and age. Michael takes an unbiased view with years of experience to share how to make your first days and continuing days as a successful CISO. For any of those who might be hitting some challenges or just need a quick refresher on how to successfully build your security environment, this is where you should start. Michael takes all the "Buzzwords" that we hear day in and day out, really focuses on what is important. YOUR SUCCESS! Michael knows the importance of getting straight and to the point as he was once in your shoes. I am excited to see more of his teachings in the future as this was a very fine read. Thank you

CISO Perspective from the Trenches
A number of CISO's have written "how to" books, describing how they practiced information security. Mr. Oberlaender's book seems to be the latest of this type. On the plus side are a number of thought provoking war stories from his experience. Also, good condensed approaches to risk assessment, incident response and other key security processes. Overall, the book is an entertaining 83 pages, another plus. On the negative side: a couple of graphics are really hard to read; also, 13 pages of bullet points on secure coding did not improve my understanding. In total, I recommend this book for any security manager looking for new ideas on how to secure his/her own organization.

I purchased "C(I)SO And Now What?". I admit, with over 20 years in IT I was somewhat apprehensive on the purchase because I figured what more could I learn that I haven't learned already over the years. I was sorely mistaken - the book is an excellent resource and I personally use it daily as a reference, go figure. The book dives deep, i.e. software development and coding, the "security stack" and it's application to the OSI model, yet is digestible for novice and experts alike. I only wish there were a Kindle version so it could be even more accessible.

Insightful book from an experienced CISO
Mr. Oberlaender does a nice job articulating CISO success factors such as the need to take risks, the importance of listening, how policy & technology go hand in hand, how security often collides with the business and what to do about it, and the importance of keeping oneself continually educated on the latest trends and technologies.

How to Successfully Build Security by Design” to be a great reference on information security management. The tools are very useful, the advices are very knowledgeable.Easy to read, very methodical and extremely professional, there is no doubt the book was written based on real life experience. Actually, it is the main added value of Michael Oberlaender's book.As academic director of CISO studies (See-Security College), I do recommend the book to my students.

Content not bad but presentation and grammar quality is low
The author's many years of experience show and the length of the book is nice. However the diagrams don't match the content in many instances or are so small as to be illegible. The author's grammar also needs a lot of work and the book does not appear to have been reviewed by a professional editor who would likely have picked up these issues. With some work on the grammar and diagrams by an editor the book would be much improved.
