Clear explanations of proven methods to enhance the dog-owner relationship are the cornerstone of this newly revised manual. The Tellington TTouch Method is currently being used not only by dog owners but also by trainers, breeders, veterinarians, and veterinary technicians, as well as in animal shelters around the world. Using a combination of 22 specific TTouches, leading exercises, and exercises over obstacles, a dog’s performance and health is improved. Dog owners will learn to help their dog through a variety of problems, including excessive barking and chewing, leash pulling, jumping up and aggressive behavior, fearful biting or timidity, resistance to grooming, and hyperactivity or nervousness. Case studies showing different breeds demonstrate how many owners, some at their wits end, have used the TTouch Method to solve all manner of difficulties. A NEW EDITION with updated material and new photos! When you think of your dog what is the first characteristic that comes to mind? His “smile,” his gentle companionship, his good-natured bark when he sees a “friend”? Or, do you immediately think of his “bad habits”— maybe his tendency to jump up on people, the “accidents” he sometimes has in the house, or the way he pulls when you go for a walk? Every dog is an independent spirit and a unique being made up of a fascinating mixture of what you might call “bad” and “good.” Now, in this new edition of the international bestseller Getting in TTouch with Your Dog, acclaimed animal expert and companion animal trainer Linda Tellington-Jones explains that the “idea” of your dog that you hold within, the picture you have in your mind, has a great deal to do with how he ultimately behaves. “Change your mind, change your dog,” is one tenet of Linda’s renowned Tellington Method. By thinking of your dog in “perfect” terms, you can come a long way in solving problematic behaviors, training for a joyful partnership, and ensuring health and well-being. Added to this “perfect dog state of mind” is Linda’s course in gentle bodywork, known throughout the world as “Tellington TTouch.” This series of circular touches on your dog’s body, using different pressures and patterns, has been scientifically proven to reduce stress, speed healing, and increase focus and the ability to learn. TTouch is complemented by specialized training equipment, carefully chosen to provide the handler optimal means of communication without the use of force, as well as Linda’s Playground for Higher Learning, a ground course of obstacles developed as a fun way to improve your dog’s attention, willingness, and confidence. Altogether, Linda provides the ultimate reference for safe, gentle, idealistic care for and training of dogs, all ages, breeds, and sizes. Review: T-touch changed my dog for the better! - I have noticed a wonderful change in my dog's behavior since beginning T-touch. I will caveat my review by stating that I took my dog for five T-touch sessions with a professional T-touch consultant and bought the book so I could begin to do T-touch on my own. My dog is a rescue dog with severe anxiety and T-touch in combination with a Thundershirt has been wonderful for him. He no longer paces back and forth, no longer chews on furniture and is just calmer. His body is not tense and his tail is much looser. I took him to the vet recently and they could not believe how calm he was in a busy environment. Walks are much easier and he is not as easily overstimulated when he sees people, other dogs or small animals. His trainers highly recommended T-touch and I would tell anybody who is skeptical to at least try it. It has made such a huge difference in my dog's life and I am finally beginning to feel that he is calm and in a much better state. With the T-touch consultant, we did about 45 minutes of T-touch one a week. I then supplemented with about 15-20 minutes each day. We no longer see the consultant and I continue to do about 15-20 minutes a day with him, usually while I am watching an evening TV show. My dog really responded well to the gum work and while it can be a little intimidating sticking you had in an excited dog's mouth, that touch instantly calmed him. The book is very well organized and talks about the effects of the different touches, including gum and tail touches. It includes pictures and detailed directions for each touch. I think I could have learned how to do T-touch on my own from this book if hadn't taken my dog to the consultant. The book also talks about different wraps you can use to calm your dog, as well as different leash configurations and halters to try. Review: A Must Read for Dog People - The benefits my dog and I have gotten from this book in just about a week are astonishing. I had previously had an earlier version of the book and was put off by the names for T-Touches: animal names and such. When I bought this edition for the DogRead discussion, I read it and learned that those names had no deep meaning. The book was translated from German, the author teaches all over the world, and the names are just to try to keep it straight as to what touch is being referred to. Then I began to read! I learned some new ways to touch my dog that immediately created some lovely results. For example, he's a picky eater and it's important that he eat his meals on time, in particular one meal a day that contains medication. I was having lots of trouble getting him to eat that--until the first day I used T-Touch to get him to eat. Maybe three minutes of touches, following the instructions in the book, and he promptly ate. And now, every day since then. I am also working with a balanced leash technique I learned about in the book. It immediately worked! This is not a religion. It is a very good way to reach a dog. It enhances your communication with your dog, and helps you find where and how to touch the dog to help the dog with physical and emotional problems. It's loving your dog. It brings you and your dog into a closer relationship, and that has huge benefits for you both. I've been very involved in therapy dog work, and T-Touch, like therapy dog visits to people, has benefits that can't be "proven," but are definitely real.

Great if you want to learn about TTouch for dogs
Nice photos and directions for doing the various TTouch maneuvers. Goes over the history, each maneuver, various types of collars, harnesses and leashes, your mindset and then some agility type courses to enhance the comfort of your dog in its own body. At times, the translation (the book was written in German originally) is confusing and one has to guess at what was meant, but it isn't too often and doesn't detract from one getting what was intended to be conveyed except in one place. The beginning part was also a bit slow to get through for me, until one gets to the "meat" of the matter. I have worked with some of this on my own dog and have found that he LOVES the hair pull (no it isn't painful or cruel, it just sounds like it is). I will enjoy working with many of the maneuvers with my dog and will be trying it on my cats also. Will be ordering a double snap leash and I find I agree totally with the author on the use of the head halter. It was the only thing that worked with my large and very strong pulling dog. I use the Gentle Leader, it works better for my dog than the Halti harness.

Comprehensive, with tons of well-organized material
I had bought an earlier TTouch book and didn't get this one right away because I thought it would be a rehash of the material. But I finished the first book and I just wanted to read more even if it was the same material worded differently. Well, this book is a fantastic resource! The different TTouches are presented one-by-one, each one with its own 2-page spread and a recommendation of situations where they're appropriate. Lots of photos. In fact, the book is chock-full of full-color photos. I especially appreciate the section on the "playground for higher learning" -- the labyrinth, ladders, etc. There are some wording issues here and there ("whey" for "way") but not too many. Mostly this is an extremely well organized, informative resource for a dog owner. My own dog's behavior has transformed since using TTouch. I have had sessions with a practitioner. The biggest shift was after the third session but I saw clear improvement after just one session. My dog used to lunge at other dogs and at cats, pull on the leash, and snap at people. Now he will occasionally lunge at another dog or a cat but it's a couple of times per week where before it was a couple of times per walk. I expect it to become even less frequent as I recognize the preliminary signs and head the behavior off. But the biggest benefit is that TTouch is a way for me to be affectionate with my dog without him getting riled up. Before, I would pet him and he wouldn't want me to stop. And he'd become harder to handle on a walk if I petted him much. With TTouch he loves the physical touch, but when I'm done he's satisfied (he's not begging for more and not pushing his head under my hand). Plus, the more I do TTouch, the easier he is to walk. It's been life-changing in my household. This book is a great reference for me in keeping my TTouches as TTouches, and not veering off into regular petting (which makes my dog reactive and harder to handle).

Must have for dog owners
If you have a dog(especially if you have a rescued dog!), this book is a must have. It's clear and easy to follow, and covers a variety of issues that dog owners often face. I'm a massage therapist, so I'd already done some work on my dogs. But when I adopted my first rescued Pap, this book was invaluable in helping her overcome her fears and definitely helped her body recover. When she died in my arms in December 2016 from a brain tumor, I was calming and comforting her with my touch. Well, both of us were being calmed, because even though I couldn't save her, I could offer her the comfort of my touch and love because of the techniques in this book. I often wonder if doing TTouch for her all the time I had her gave us a bit more time together.

"A gentle approach to influencing your dog's behavior."
I found this helpful book by Googling in desperation because I couldn’t calm my stressed Bernese mountain dog. Once I read the book, I recalled learning many years about some kind of touch therapy for quieting dogs, but I didn’t remember how it worked. This attractive book explained and demonstrated with colorful photos a couple dozen touches to be used depending on what behavior you are dealing with. It was a bit overwhelming for me personally. So when Heidi stressed out in the wee hours again one night last week for no reason that I could discern at that hour, I got up and massaged her all over with whatever touches I could remember. The combination worked for me, so I will keep the book handy.

It is very easy to read and follow
Superb book. It is very easy to read and follow. My old GSP saw a practitioner once a month to address his arthritis and it was wonderful. He so enjoyed the sessions. I have just purchased the book for my hormone riddled teenage dog. First session was a huge success, just using the very basic Abalone TTouch to start with. He loved it and the bond was immediate. He is now crashed out on a beanbag in doggy bliss! Love the whole concept and it is so nice to purchase a book which gives you step by step guidance. I thoroughly recommend this book. Thank you Linda!
