Shimano Ultegra 10000 XSC

A few years ago, I wanted to get a high end reel for my bass fishing gear. The sales person I talked to said that while the high end Abu Garcia, Penn, Pflueger, and Daiwa reals are indeed outstanding, Shimano reels use a slightly different gear technology that a lot of people claim is in a league of its own. So I decided to give them a try.I have since replaced all of my fresh water equipment with a variety of Shimano reels. I have everything from the low end Sedona, the mid-range Sienna and Sahara, and the high end Sustain and Stradic reels. I’m of the opinion that Shimano has their reels priced perfectly. No matter what price range you go with, it would be hard to spend the same amount and find a better reel than the Shimano brand.So now it was time for me to upgrade my salt water gear. After doing some research on the line of salt water reels offered by Shimano, I decided to go with the Ultegra 10000 XSC to attach to my 10 foot shoreline rod. Once again, Shimano did not disappoint!The reel runs extremely smooth, oscillates VERY slowly, and spools the line so evenly that it’s amazing to watch. The tension adjustment has just the right amount of sensitivity that it allows to you fine tune it easily, but also to tighten up quickly when you need to.I did come across one issue, which I eventually figured out. There is a plastic line guard at the bottom of the spool that prevents the line from wrapping underneath (which is an awesome feature). However, when I was changing spools, the line guard came out of its guides and was getting stuck in the wrong position, causing the reel to freeze up. I did eventually figure out that I needed to put it back into its guides (located on the arms that hold the bail) in order to work properly. Once I did put it back, everything went back to working as it should, so I know now to be careful when changing spools.Nevertheless, I am extremely pleased with my purchase. I am completely sold on Shimano’s quality, and would recommend them to anyone.

Just Got the Reel in today. It is well balanced. I decided to put on 50# Powerpro on the primary 10000 reel for bait. 30# @ 300 Yards Power pro Super Slick on the second 6000 series for casting lures. Don't forget to put one layer of Mono on the base of the Reel then tie to the braided line. It may slip otherwise. Always use a Ball bearing swivel at end of your line to prevent line twisting :-)
