This new Stages Dash is awesome...

I have the original Dash, which has a lot of the features I want in a cycling computer, but after seeing initial reviews on this new one… I had to get it. With the original Dash, as someone who races and enjoys analyzing the numbers after a training ride, and especially after a race, being able to have several custom pages with all the detailed info I need and want, immediately, is awesome. But with this new Dash M50 I have all those cool features but now I can upload custom workouts to the Dash and see them right on my screen. I’m also loving the big, bright backlit color screen, longer battery life (even with backlight enabled), mapping w/ turn-by-turn nav, and my favorite… color-coded targets and power zones. I also like that my phone texts and calls display on the screen as an overlay while I’m riding. Many times I’ve missed that all too important question from the wife “What do you want to do for dinner?” - and I don’t see it until my ride is over, and by then… it’s dinner for one.So like a kid at Christmas, I got this thing set up immediately. It was super easy. I already had a Stages Link account, and the Stages Link app, so I went through the initial prompts on the Dash unit and then used the app to scan the barcode to sync the Dash to the app. Then went through the set up for syncing with my Stages power meter and my HR strap… and I was done. Ready to roll! Once my ride was done the Dash automatically synced the ride with the Stages Link app, which pushed to Strava. Easy. After that first ride I went back and completely reconfigured the pages and profiles from the default ones to better suit my needs, which was really simple. You can do it on the Dash unit, or on Stages Link. This thing is completely customizable. So awesome.

Get Something Else...

The M50 screen size is just right. Compared to the similar bike computers with a color screen, built-in map ability, pwoermeter compatible, GPS, altimeter, etc., this one is a bargain. I like that the data fields are customizable and as are the pages, and that everything can be easily configured using the Stages app on my smart phone. Oddly, selecting a larger data field in some instances doesn't result an increase in the font size. That aside, the unit works well and is easy to read in full sunlight, although the screen tends to flicker as it changes brightness automatically based on ambient lighting conditions (it's not all the time, but it is a bit annoying). The package includes one Stages Out Front handlebar mount. Other Stages mounts and accessories light a heart rate monitor strap have to purchased separately. The mounting interface for the handlebar mounts is just plain awful. One, the mounting interface is unique to Stages and there are no third-party/non-OEM options. Two, the head unit doesn't just clip in, you have to force it to seat. Third, and perhaps most troubling, is I didn't make it 5 miles before the head unit fell off because the screws that (factory installed) that hold the interface mechanism to the mount came loose.

Stages Dash - Best screen out there

I live in bright light in the south, bright enough that in the late afternoon it can be really hard to read the screen on my Garmin 820. I decided to try the Dash, as I've found their power meters to be of exceptional quality. I am really happy with the Dash. The short list of what I love:1. The screen: It is extremely clear and bright. When I'm in the hurt locker it's easy for me to quickly read the display at a glance. There's a strong argument to be made that the screen is the most critical part of the computer. If you can't see the numbers, what's the point?2. Configurations: Because the screen is larger than my 820 I can add more fields and allocate more space to the most critical fields.3. Mounting options: The Stages gets a high-quality aluminum mount out of the box. Nice! Even better this mount and the computer software allow the user to set up the computer as landscape or portrait on their bars. I found this great for my preferred interval screen with HR and Power as two dials on the computer.I haven't used the GPS a lot yet, but it sounds good based on the reviews I've read online. The syncing with Strava, TrainingPeaks, etc is as expected. Consider me a Stages convert!

Awesome piece of gear

Got my new Stages Dash M50 as an upgrade to the original Dash. It is a significant improvement and the new features will allow me to finally banish that Garmin Edge 830 into a drawer. Only reason to keep the Garmin in the rotation was for mapping. Stages has solved that and the mapping couldn't be better. ALL MAPS ARE FREE... WORLDWIDE. Creating rides is super simple and done in the web based link app and the on-course routing was spotless even if you don't start at the exact beginning of the course. Super easy to import routes from other sources as well. The display is BRIGHT and is completely configurable. One of the coolest things is the integration with your smartphone. Displays an overlay (all ultimately configurable) to show you who's calling or texting. Doesn't turn your crank? turn it off. Also automatically syncs your ride when finished to the Link app and to Strava or whatever other ride app you use, no more fiddling around on the laptop. Finally a cycling computer developed by cyclists for cyclists. The original Dash's biggest strength was always with structured workouts and training. With the new Dash, you still get all of that and now all of the things you want when out on the road.

Best computer head unit on the market today...

Upgraded to the M50 from a Wahoo Element, and I won't look back. One of the best displays on a consumer device that I've played with, not just "best cycling screen," which is huge. Never had an issue with it in broad daylight, or even at dusk, it's always perfectly visible.Syncing/downloading workouts/rides is the easiest of any computer I've owned. However, I feel its the level of customization available that really helps set this computer apart. Whether setting up your display how you want it, set up custom workouts, or other notifications/features. Also probably the nicest out of the box mount among all the competitors: machined alloy and SUPER low-profile. I fit it and some Di2 climbing shifters and my bar isn't crowded.Worth the purchase, you won't have any regrets.
