Verbatim BD-R XL 100GB 4X White Inkjet Printable, Hub Printable - 10pk Spindle

I was recently reminded by a friend that a RAID is not a backup. Fortunately my RAID is only used for old stuff, it’s more of an archive. But if it were ever to fail, I’d be devastated. So what’s the best way to archive 4TB of data? I could build a second RAID... or maybe but an SSD or two.... or finally put that BluRay burner I bought five years ago to good use.... I chose the latter. So 39, 100GB quad layer BD-R discs from Verbatim should do the trick. And do the trick it did. Not a single bad disc in the bunch. On average all discs burned at about 5x speed and took an average of an hour and a half to burn each disc. Now I have an archive to last me at least fifty years. True, anything I add to my RAID from here on out won’t be part of that backup, but many next time I’ll use some BD-RE discs so I can reuse them over and over again. It just sucks that there aren’t any BD-RE 100GB discs I can get.

Had a ton of data I wanted to protect offline. I know they are still a tad pricey, compared to the falling hard disk prices, but wanted a true easy offline media solution and not use 40+ 25Gb BluRay discs to save time/space. I used my trusty Pioneer BDR-211 drive and went slow on the burning with the freebie BurnAware software. Didn't have one single coaster so far and looking to buy more! I still remember when the 100Mb blue Iomega ZipDrives just came out and were the coolest thing to replace floppys, so hoping the various BluRay formats will at least still be valid and usable in the next 5-15+ years. :-) I assume the next disc format jump will be using Archival Disc (AD) format from Sony/Panasonic.

I facilitate corporate backups that absolutely do not intersect the internet, whatsoever. At a whopping 100GB capacity, these discs are the best value in town. Safer than SSD and more reliable than HDD, these can really outlast traditional magnetic tapes as well. Current tech does not allow for fast recording speeds but I accept this deficit in favor of the capacity and longevity, hands down!

I needed these BD-R XL 100GB discs for data backup, so I ordered a 10-pack and burned every disc at the slowest available speed. After burning, I copied the data back and verified it using PAR2. Out of the 10 discs, one was completely unreadable, and another was partially defective - one of the 10 files I burned to that disc could not be read back. The remaining discs and data were verified without issues. The 20% failure rate is disappointing.

When it works it works great, however I have at least a 80% fail rate with these discs. Always an unknown error, error code 0xeb020be2. I utilize an LG external Blu-ray and DVD writer with updated drivers and manufacturing date of December 2024. I have not had any problems with this disc drive on any other format. Likewise I've had a 25 gig version of these discs from the same brand with a fail rate of 30%. So it seems that they have faulty discs

I only buy Verbatim-brand discs for their reliability and longevity when creating the master archival backup discs for my clients' digital work product. I have been around since 2006 and have been using Verbatim brand discs for as long as there has been a choice to be made. I have yet to go back to an archived Verbatim-brand discs and had any issue with loading, data integrity or data retrieval. I cannot recommend them strongly enough.

So far I've not made any expensive coasters with this product. Haven't tried tossing them in a printer yet though, so I can't say for certain if/how that might affect longevity either. Normally I just use a Sharpie. But all around, 100GB for about $6/disc is something I can live with for backing things up in a more stable and secure format. Strongly considering buying another pack, even though I haven't even used two out of this one yet :D

They work. Plain and simple. Not sure what else to say.

I've had lots of these discs fail on me and so can't recommend them. I was down to my last two, which I planned to use to backup some music files. The first one burnt fine, whereas the second gave a write failure about half way through the burn. Trying to read various discs previously burnt has also failed. I wouldn't buy these again!

I managed to successfully burn my 4K holiday video on to the disc, but my 4K blu ray player will not play the disc, and it appears that the only blu ray player that will play these is marketed only in Japan. Should have done more research before buying the product, and recommend doing this if the intention is to use the discs to play video.

After burning the discs using an ASUS I can not read any of the discs as my Mac won't recognise the disc.
