Hot Wheels ID Smart Track Upgrade Kit

This is a great kit - we actually returned this though and bought the full kit as this set does not come with the portal and we saw that the full set was cheaper at the time than buying the two separate parts.

Really well made, but be careful, it doesn't come with the requisite "portal". I had to buy that separately afterwards.

This Hot Wheels ID Track set requires the purchase of a Hot Wheels ID Car and, to get the best out of the connected features, the Race Portal which reads the RFID tags in the ID cars or an NFC equipped mobile phone/tablet. This track set is backwards compatible with the older style Hot Wheels track and supported by the Hot Wheels ID app which is available for IOS and Android.What’s different about the Hot Wheels ID genre is that it uses RFID tags in each car which are read via the Race Portal (or NFC device) and App to record performance, distance travelled/laps, achievement and stunts etc. Within the app, you can also play mini-games featuring the Hot Wheels ID cars you own in virtual form.As I see it these are the strengths and not so good areas of this Hot Wheels ID track set;- The set is well made and offers a range of layouts without the purchase of additional track plus includes a powerful booster with variable hand “throttle” to propel the cars - this latter point maintains the element of human control/skill.- User-friendly packaging and decent but mainly visual instructions.- The track is easy to set up and can be packed away, although it's best left built if you have space – the footprint varies according to the layout which includes banked curves, jumps and a loop etc.- There are many possible layouts and integration with existing Hot Wheels track is good - there's even a game in the app that gives ideas for new layouts.- High scale speeds can be achieved together with stunts such as loops and jumps etc.- Once set up properly cars remain on the track.- Plenty of information is harvested by the app from ID cars – IOS and Android are supported.- Your phone/tablet can be used as a scoreboard once the app is loaded.- USB rechargeable lithium batteries are used for the booster data etc.- The data connection is by Bluetooth – connectivity is good and non-problematic.- Good range of Hot Wheels ID cars available even at launch.- Virtual gameplay and sound effects etc. are top-notch – you can compete on basis of speed etc. in physical games or in mini app games such as Scavenger Hunt etc.- Race Portal will work with the older track - the Portal is a basic way of entering the Hot Wheels ID arena to see if it is for you although functionality is more limited than with ID “smart track”.- Very fast, exciting play and enduring too – this doesn’t seem to be a “five-minute wonder” and is a perfect fusion of “real world” and virtual gameplay.Not so good- Race Portal not included in this set and sold separately (although, for review purposes, the portal was supplied and the pack includes 2 cars).- Although the app is free, in-app you have to pay when you use certain virtual features, for example, for fuel purchases in mini-games, this can soon rack up a bill so, parental vigilance is necessary but the chargeable area is well protected.- Cars are proportionately a lot more expensive than straightforward Hot Wheels versions.- Noise from both the track and app can be annoying to non-participants.In summary, Hot Wheels ID feels like a genuine fusion of traditional and digital mediums that really works delivering enduring playability. A true evolution that the boys really love.

The track is great and fun with 5 y/o son, but…- needs an app to work fully and the app seems to not be being developed any more + can take an age to load (& some days just doesn’t)- the range is discontinued by Hot Wheels, so who knows how much longer the app will work at all + unlikely there will be new carsSo all in all it’s very expensive for a great launcher and some sturdy track which can connect to the normal track

There is a fundamental piece called the 'Race Portal', which without this, you are basically buying an expensive track set that you simply cannot fully utilise; this is because the Race Portal effectively doubles as a missing track piece (with very smart functions) which slots into the main car launcher/booster attachment and bridges the gap for the cars to move across. The Race Portal also comes with two 'Hot Wheels ID' cars to get you started.There are currently two ways of purchasing, should you wish to go for the 'ID Smart Track' series:1) Hot Wheels ID Smart Track Kit - This comes with everything you require.2) Hot Wheels ID Smart Upgrade Kit + Hot Wheels ID Race Portal - Two seperate purchases.♦ Product Quality ♦I was very impressed with the overall quality of the product. All the parts feel durable, especially the tracks which are very robustly built as they are reinforced by hard plastic; this ensures the tracks stay in place and reduces the chance of cars flying off the track when cars are whizzing around at high-speed; though do note that it is still possible for a car to fly off track depending on the speed of the car and the layout of the track.♦ Features & In-Use ♦The 'ID' series takes Hot Wheels to a completely new level of play and overall interactivity. With a full set in place and a compatible smart device at hand with the ‘Hot Wheels ID’ app installed, the Race Portal communicates with the launcher and smart-tracks, as well as the ‘ID’ branded cars.When a compatible car is placed on to the portal, it will unlock that car if you haven't already and it will bring a 3D model of that car as well as its stats within your app.The car launcher will send the rev data to the app for you to keep an eye out for, though with the Race Portal inserted, it also powers up the lights on the launcher where it will light up red if you are overdoing it.As for the smart-tracks, they have robust USB connectors to keep each part securely attached, but also enables the app to show a virtual view of the track.There are various activities throughout the app, such as the ‘Smart Track Campaign’ which is a progressive mode where you unlock more track variations as you complete challenges; one of the challenges is to do 5 laps with one car whilst keeping the rev range under 2700rpm; another would be launching two cars within 30 seconds; it’s crazy to see the app showing you which car has done a lap and how many times it has done it. Not only is it adding another level of fun and challenge, but also allows you to learn a whole variety of track combinations.One thing for parents to keep an eye on is the Hot Wheels in-app store where you can purchase various items using tokens you had earned through completing campaigns etc… There are also options to purchase these tokens with real-world money, so ensure there are security steps put in place so your child doesn’t accidentally buys them.♦ Final Thoughts ♦Providing you have all the parts necessary, the ‘Hot Wheels ID’ is a superb product to have; it’s solidly built, it is easy to set up and I LOVE the app interaction also. Would definitely recommend.

Sin lugar a dudas es la mejor pista que Hot Wheels nos ha ofrecido, combina lo convencional con la realidad aumentada, lo mejor de todo es que NO requiere baterías, ofrece una variedad amplia de configuraciones, retos y mejoras en los autos (de manera virtual). Como dicen requieres el RACE PORTAL ID, ya que esta opción no la incluye, sin embargo al comprarlo por separado el coste final del combo es sumamente inferior que comprar la pista completa. Es cosa de estar pendiente de las ofertas.Si no tienen carros ID es posible divertirse con autos convencionales claro está que no tendrán ninguna función con la APP, pero podrás hacerlos correr con el lanzador sin necesidad de baterías.

Great track set that works so much better than the other track sets that are hit or miss. Your ID cars will go around the loop and over the jump and complete a lap when you get the right speed going with the booster. Other tracks I've tried would be very inconsistent with light hot wheels cars making the loop with others always crashing making it super frustrating for the kids.While this set is expensive, it makes up for it with the hours of entertainment provided with the app when used together, the ability to track speeds for race competitions, and sturdiness of the track since all pieces are hard plastic with USB connections linking it all together with the hub & dock. Was skeptical at first but it's great to finally have a track where a car can go 10, 20, or even more laps in a row without crashing. Overall, my six year old couldn't be happier when combined with the street beasts car set (shark hammer works best, motosaurus while looking cool is pretty worthless).

Me parece la mejor de las pistas que hemos tenido ( y eso que en esta casa han pasado muchas) increíble unir la realidad con las pistas virtuales, realmente el mejor regalo que le pude dar a mi hijo de 6 años.
