Q: This is much more expensive than Zojirushi's top non-pressure model. The models appear to be comparable. If this is better than the Zojirushi, why?

It’s actually about the same price as Zojirushi’s induction heating model. I chose this one because of the Synchro-cooking function. Zojirushis don’t have that capability.

Q: Is the inner pod prone to scratch?

It's a non-stick coated bowl. I suppose if you use metal utensils or harsh cleaning brushes, it could scratch. But if you take care of it like any other non-stick coated pan and use a less-abrasive brush and only use plastic utensils, I'm sure it will stay smooth and in tact. I will say, I'v never had the need to scrub or scrape anything. It cleans easily with soap and water so I don't see the need to use anything that would scratch the bowl at all. Like the previous person said, it cleans beautifully every time for me as well.
