Amazing bass response and definitely applicable for Home Theater systems despite other's opinions on that issue.
All I gotta say is DAMN! This is the one. super light, you can totally pick it up. The bass response is amazing. I am not a DJ and use this with my regular stereo set ups in three different room locations because I needed an awesome bass source for outdoor parties. Obviously I move it around a lot. Sometimes in my home theater (Star Wars never sounded this good), sometimes in my garage for working out/training, and then outside for parties. This one did not disappoint and even at low volume produces clean and accurate bass. Those who say it is overkill for home theater applications, in my opinion, are incorrect. It works very well. I use an RCA to XLR Y-adaptor so the mono sub out from the receiver goes to both XLR inputs and have had no issues in sound quality. As an audiophile who has years of car stereo installation and home theater construction experience, this one works well for everyone who needs amazingly loud bass. I use two Yamaha receivers, including the Rs700BL, and an older Kenwood HT receiver and this sounds great on all setups. So it's easy to upgrade your system to using this speaker. Just make sure you have some good high end mid/high speakers to match this bad boy, as well as the room! It's a beast. As long as you have good power and clean sound there this will not drown your mid/high speakers. I use a high pass X-over for my other speakers for no bass conflict. This thing rocks and yes you can disable the JBL grill light. Also, I had no problems with my grill. I bought this on the cheap as an open-box item for $400 here on Amazon. What a screaming deal!

Lightweight, Hard hitting
I bought this sub as a replacement for 2 of my 12' Gemini Powered subs (I know...I know). This 1 15" JBL does the work of that and more! My only advice is not to use the passthrough as for me it doesn't hit hard enough. I DJ Clubs and dances and need power, if I use the passthrough it does not give me the punch I want. Just plug you line directly and you can control the "punch"It is a workhorse. I have had this thing all the way up, and banging consistently for hours on end and it doesn't miss a beat. I can only imagine if I had two of them. I have it centered with two Mackie 12' thumps and it balances nicely.Lightweight! It is lighter than my previous gemini subs and real is no problem for one guy to lift and go! Highly Recommend for the mobile DJ!

Pricey,but worth it!
What can I say about this powered sub, IT KICKS _SS! Shopped around for long time, listened to lots of different brands. When it came down to which sub had best sound, and was easy to move and hook up,hands down JBL 518S was my choice! I can't believe I read some reviews from people saying negative things about this product. Obviously amateurs who don't know what the hell they are doing. The only negative thing I can say about JBL is their prices. You guys are way too expensive, great stuff but pricey! I was able to purchase it for $809.00 too so first time I was able to find lower price than Amazon, which has never happened before, but yes it was a resealed box,but still a new speaker with guarantee intact.Sure you could spend less, but you will get just that!/ALL THAT HAS CHANGED ! To the people I called amateurs, you were right and I was wrong! Turned into a piece of crap after about 13 months of use,had to replace speaker,,very expensive

It Sounds great, & is very lightweight
Musician/Sound Guy/Engineer here.It Sounds great, & is very lightweight. I first bought one in guitar center. I tested and tested and tested everything they had in detail. This was the clearest, not muddy, Solid Sub of all they had. Best overall middle ground of power, price, & mobility you can get. **Need to really push the volume** Not the bass necessarily, but Volume. I recommend trying your FX channel to try and get more gain. Other than that, I completely recommend. If you need more power, just buy another one of these lightweight, QUALITY sounding sub's.

JBL Sub
This is by far a very high end piece of equipment. The amount of bass is amazing. This is the ultimate piece of equipment for anyone who want a lot of bass and the quality is very good. The sub is very well made and is very light. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a lot of bass with low weight. It is also very easy to transport with the handles on the sides and you don't have to worry because the sub can handle almost anything you can send it's way.
